Abstract

Waste management in traditional markets, such as Porsea Market in Toba Regency, North Sumatra, faces complex challenges due to high trading activities that generate organic and inorganic waste. If not managed properly, waste can have a negative impact on the environment, public health, and visitor comfort. The purpose of this service is to analyze the system and government policies in waste management in Porsea Market and implement a management program that involves various parties, including the local government, market managers, traders, and local communities. The method used is a participatory approach with stages of problem identification, socialization, program implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The program included the provision of segregated waste bins, increased frequency of waste collection, and the formation of a market cleaning team. The results showed that the program succeeded in increasing community awareness in sorting waste, reducing piles of waste in the market area, and creating a cleaner and more comfortable market environment.

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets and rods in improving the structural performance of reinforced concrete beams. Three beam specimens were tested: a control beam (BN), a beam reinforced with CFRP rods (BTC), and a beam reinforced with CFRP sheets (BLC). The experimental evaluation focused on key parameters, including first crack load (Pcrack), yield load (Pyield), maximum load (Pmax), and deflections at critical points. The stiffness of the beams was assessed at both the cracking stage (Kcrack) and the yielding stage (Kyield). The results demonstrate that the beam reinforced with CFRP sheets (BLC) exhibited the highest improvements in stiffness, with an increase of 184.89% in Kcrack and 221.21% in Kyield compared to the control beam (BN). The CFRP rod-reinforced beam (BTC) also showed enhanced performance, but to a lesser extent, with increases of 72.69% in Kcrack and 64.78% in Kyield compared to BN. The data reveals that BLC significantly reduces deflection and enhances load-bearing capacity, particularly in resisting initial cracking and yielding. The discussion highlights that CFRP sheets provide superior stiffness improvement compared to CFRP rods, making them more suitable for applications where increased stiffness and reduced deflection are critical. While CFRP rods effectively increase the ultimate load capacity, their impact on stiffness is less pronounced than CFRP sheets. In conclusion, CFRP sheets offer a more effective reinforcement solution for enhancing stiffness and controlling deflection in concrete beams, especially in structures requiring high resistance to cracking and yielding.

Abstract

Human life is very dependent on the fact of good quality air which is called clean water. Clean water is one type of water-based resource that is of good quality and is commonly used by humans for consumption or in carrying out their daily activities including sanitation. The most important thing is clean water is a basic human need that affects human health. Binjai City is a city with a dense population of 283,362 people in 2020, including a small city with a usage of 100 liters / person / day. This requires an analysis of the need for clean water that can be used effectively, efficiently and sustainably. This analysis will require data: the total population obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics and the existing clean water capacity will be obtained from PDAM Tirtasari as well as literature studies or direct links to related parties regarding the existence of clean water in the city of Binjai. The need for clean water is divided into domestic water needs and non-domestic water needs in which there are social, commercial, industrial, and government agency needs. This need will be projected until 2025 so that Binjai city needs to build a new water treatment plant.

Abstract

The occurrence of flooding on Jln.Pelita 1, Medan Perjuangan District in Medan City was caused by the inability of the existing drainage channel to accommodate direct runoff and blockage of drainage channels by garbage. The hydrological analysis uses maximum rainfall data for the last 10 years, then calculations are carried out that aim to calculate the planned discharge using the rational method. The area of the Medan Perjuangan sub-district is 0.2475 Km2 with hydraulics analysis carried out to calculate the discharge capacity of the drainage channel using the Continuity formula and the Manning formula, after which the appropriate system and dimensions are planned. With a ketchment area of Medan Perjuangan sub-district 0.2475 km2, the calculation of drainage planning using the Gumbel Method of planned rainfall for a return period of ±10 years, with the largest discharge on the combined section of the primary canal and the Kemiling area. Then it was found that the flood height in the research area was as high as 10-20 cm and because of the existing dimensions it was not able to accommodate the design discharge. Thus, the appropriate channel dimensions are planned using a shaped cross section so that the design discharge (Qr) > channel discharge (Qs).

Abstract

The water that humans really need is good quality water, which is commonly known as clean water. Clean water is one type of water-based resource that is of good quality and is commonly used by humans for consumption or in carrying out their daily activities including sanitation. The most important thing is clean water is a basic human need which greatly affects human health. The stages in completing this Final Project are first to collect the required data from the Central Bureau of Statistics and BAPPEDA Medan City with literature reviews and ask questions directly to related parties about the required data. Then the calculation of the projected population in the city of Medan using the geometric, arithmetic method. The next stage is calculating the need for clean water in Medan City and calculating the maximum daily water needs and peak hours.
