Abstract

Idioms are fixed combinations of words whose meaning cannot be determined by looking at theexpression itself. Moreover, identifying whether the phrase or clause is an idiom or not is alsodifficult to do unless the translator is familiar with the expressions. This research aims at findingthe translation strategies in translating the idioms found in The Boss Baby: Back in BusinessMovie Series, Season 2, Episodes 1-3. This research is a descriptive qualitative. Observationmethod and note taking were applied in order to collect the data and achieve the aim of theresearch. The results show that there are 20 idioms found in the three episodes. The strategiesused in Episode 1, entitled As the Diaper Changes, are an idiom with dissimilar form strategy (1),paraphrasing (5), and omission (1). Episode 2, entitled Super Cool Big Kids Inc., an idiom withsimilar meaning and form (1), and paraphrasing (5). Episode 3 entitled P.U., paraphrasing (7).

Abstract

This research portrays about the implementation of maxims of politeness in the first episode of Bridgerton Season 2, entitled Capital R Rake. The aim is finding out the maxims of politeness. The method used is qualitative descriptive method. The results shows that there are 15 data of Tact Maxim, 5 data of Generosity Maxim, 27 data of Approbation Maxim, 18 data of Modesty Maxim, 14 data of Agreement Maxim, and 7 data of Sympathy Maxim. The most maxim that appears is Approbation Maxim. The least maxim that appears in the movie is Generosity.

Abstract

Antonymy is a translation strategy with the oppositeness of meaning by changing the positive element in the source text into negative in the target text or the negative element in the source text into positive in the target text. This present research aims at exploring the implementation of antonymy strategy in translating utterances from English into Indonesian in a series entitled “Young Sheldon” season 1 episodes 1-5. The antonymy is based on semantic point of view. By applying qualitative research, the result shows that there are eleven (11) data found that are translated using antonymy strategy based on Chesterman (2016). The data are taken from a series entitled “Young Sheldon”, season 1 from episodes 1 until 5. Even though there is a changing, the meanings are all transferred accurately from the source text into the target text.

Abstract

Phrasal verbs are the combination of a verb with one or two particles (prepositions or adverbs). Phrasal verbs have four types based on Workman’s theory (1995). Therefore, this present research is aimed at finding the types of phrasal verbs in a series entitled “Young Sheldon”, season 02, episode 01. Qualitative research is applied in order to analyze the data. The result showed that there are ten (10) phrasal verbs. Three (3) phrasal verbs that belong to type 1, five (5) phrasal verb that belong to type 2, and two (2) phrasal verbs that belong to type 4.

Abstract

Liberal feminism is a universal approach in which women and men are equal in basic rights such as education, work, financial security, voting and many more. This research aims to find out the impact of emancipation movement in a promptbook entitled He and She play using Tong and Botts’ theory. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The result shows that most of the characters in the promptbook accept the movement, except Keith, Ruth’s boyfriend, who thinks women in his era act like superiors because of the movement. He does not accept it by showing that his girlfriend cannot have a higher position than him. She cannot work and just stay at home after they get married. At the end, he will only cut his girlfriend’s half-life. This movement can give good or bad impact for the society or surroundings, especially the men. For those who are old-fashioned thinking, this can be a threat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the category shifts employed by the translator in translating prepositional phrases in a novel titled *"Ugly Love"* from English into Indonesian. A qualitative descriptive method was used in this research. The findings reveal that, specifically in Chapter 1 of the novel, eight (8) instances of category shifts were identified, consisting of one (1) structural shift, two (2) class shifts, three (3) unit shifts, and two (2) intra-system shifts. When translating phrases, structural shifts are the most common occurrences in the Indonesian language. However, based on the findings, prepositional phrases are translated in the translator's style without altering the meaning of the source language, ensuring that the results remain accurate and acceptable.

Abstract

Translation is the process of transferring or transposing a message or knowledge from texts or utterances from at least two different languages. This present research specifically discusses the work of Audiovisual Translation (AVT), subtitling. This present research will find out the English subtitle that is translated into Indonesian using expansion strategy from a series entitled “The Recruit” Season 2 Episode 1. The theory about expansion strategy is based on Gottlieb (1992). A descriptive qualitative research is applied in this present research. The result reveals that 11 data of English subtitle are translated into Indonesian using expansion or addition strategy.
