Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The development of coastal zones throughout the world has resulted in changes in the order of the mangrove ecosystem, therefore, planting activities are carried out in various regions. The study of the testing and determination of gastropod species as bioindicators in the mangrove reforestation area was carried out in the Seribu Islands. This research aims to determine how suitable the gastropod species are used as bioindicators in assessing the success of mangrove reforestation, especially in the Seribu Islands. Collection of gastropod species is done by making line transects and plots drawn from the reference point (outermost mangrove stands) and perpendicular to the coastline to the mainland. Line transects are made of plots of size 10 x 10 m and in the size of 10 x 10 m a small plot of 1 x 1 m is made. Furthermore, testing is carried out with several criteria and analyzed using multivariate Principal Component Analysis (PCA) statistics. The results of the study show that the species Littoraria scabra has met all the specified testing criteria. Then L. scabra also has the highest eigenvalue compared to the other species, making it suitable to be used as a bioindicator species in assessing the success of the Seribu Islands mangrove reforestation.

Abstract

Langsa Estuary is one of the areas that has a pond area by utilizing the Kuala Langsa estuary as a source of water for community ponds. But many of the results of community ponds that experience crop failure due to disease caused by water circulation or management of pond water quality is not good. Therefore, it is necessary to do monitoring of the quality of the Kuala Langsa estuary waters in order to obtain information in seeing the suitability of the estuary as a shrimp pond commodity. The purpose of this study is to look at the distribution of the suitability level of pond water quality in Langsa estuary waters by utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS) as the determination of information about the distribution of good water quality for pond commodities for brackish water aquaculture. The method used in determining the sampling point is a random sampling from the mouth of the estuary to inland waters as many as 60 sampling points, i.e. 17 sampling points are scattered in the Langsa estuary area and 43 sampling points are scattered on the pond plot around the Langsa estuary, and sampling testing is carried out in the Laboratory of the Environmental Health and Disease Control Engineering Center (BTKLPP) Medan. The results showed that the distribution of quality of pond commodities around the Langsa estuary was in accordance with S2 covering 1256.57 Ha or 69.81% followed by very suitable S1 covering 534.953 Ha or 29.72%, and according to conditional S3 covering an area of 8.541 Ha or 0.47%, however, it is necessary to pay attention to the chemical factor parameters

Abstract

The grey-eel catfish is a highly valued fish species in some parts of Indonesia. The fish is common in brackish water of estuaries, marine and freshwater habitat. They are not are not usually catched in commercial scale because of the limited population in its habitat. Although the status is not evaluated, the fish is predicted facing extinction in several countries. We conducted a study to examine the biological information and reproductive biology of the fish in Kota Langsa to gather information that can be utilize to evaluate reproductive status of the fish in several habitats. Parameters tested in the study includes sex ratio, length-weight relationships, candition factor, size at first maturity fecundity and reproductive potential of the fish. Research results provide information that the fish follows negative allometric model with constant condition factor throughout the study. The catches were relatively young fish which have not reached maturity stage. Fishes in the class sized at 510-550 mm provide the largest contribution to total eggs production. To ensure sustainability of the fish it is advised that the fish must catched at size larger than 550 mm.
