Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perubahan nutrisi dan karakteristik fisik jagung akibat pengeringan menggunakan vertical corn drier. Penelitian dilaksanakan di pabrik pengering jagung PT. Surya Pangan Indonesia di Kabupaten Gowa, Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan, dengan pengambilan data dilakukan pada bulan April-Mei 2023. Analisis deskriptif serta uji T tidak berpasangan digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menginvestigasi dampak pengeringan terhadap komposisi nutrisi dengan menggunakan near-infrared (NIR) dan sifat fisik jagung. Hasil analisis menunjukkan perubahan karakteristik nutrisi dan fisik jagung sebelum dan sesudah pengeringan. Berdasarkan analisis proksimat, terjadi peningkatan signifikan pada kandungan bahan kering (80.61% menjadi 85.79%), sedangkan kadar air menurun drastis (26.23% menjadi 14.55%). Kandungan protein dan lemak kasar mengalami sedikit kenaikan, masing-masing dari 8.04% menjadi 8.08% dan 3.76% menjadi 3.65%. Kandungan serat kasar juga meningkat dari 1.78% menjadi 1.90%. Namun, terdapat penurunan signifikan pada kandungan vitamin C (193.08 mg/kg menjadi 179.94 mg/kg) dan energi (4743.5 kkal/kg menjadi 4656.5 kkal/kg). Selain itu, karakteristik fisik jagung juga mengalami perubahan perubahan signifikan (P<0.05) pada biji rusak dan benda asing,. Nilai kerapatan tumpukan (KT) meningkat dari 683.33 kg/m3 menjadi 756.33 kg/m3, sedangkan berat jenis (BJ) meningkat dari 1.033 kg/m3 menjadi 1.933 kg/m3. Hasil ini memberikan pemahaman lebih lanjut tentang dampak pengeringan pada kualitas nutrisi dan karakteristik fisik jagung, yang relevan bagi industri pengolahan jagung dan pertanian dalam pengembangan metode pengeringan yang optimal untuk menjaga kualitas produk jagung yang dikeringkan.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of providing feed in mash and pellet forms on dry matter intake (DMI), feed conversion efficiency (FCE), and daily milk production, and to understand the mechanism by which feed physical form enhances nutrient digestibility under tropical conditions. This study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design following PRISMA guidelines, with literature searches conducted in the Scopus, ScienceDirect, and PubMed databases. The inclusion criteria were empirical articles in English published within the last 10 years. The quality assessment of articles was conducted using the MMAT instrument, and a thematic analysis was performed with the assistance of NVivo 14 software on 141 studies that met the criteria. The analysis showed that pellet feed consistently increased DMI compared to mash; however, this increase was not accompanied by a consistent rise in daily milk production. The use of pellets tended to have a negative impact on milk fat content (milk fat depression) and increased the risk of acidosis due to a decrease in rumen pH and a shift in fermentation toward propionate, especially if the effective fiber balance (peNDF) was low. Feed conversion efficiency (FCE) remained similar between the two feed forms. Pellet feed increased intake and energy availability through starch gelatinization; however, its use must be accompanied by strict management of effective fiber to maintain rumen pH stability and milk quality. Optimizing pellet use requires further attention to local feed ingredient formulation and the use of microbial additives to mitigate the risk of reduced milk fat.
