Abstract

Background: Patient satisfaction refers to the degree of positive feelings experienced by patients as a result of the healthcare services received, particularly when these services meet or exceed their expectations. Assessing patient satisfaction is essential for evaluating the quality of healthcare services, including dental and oral care. Objective: This study aimed to assess the level of patient satisfaction with dental and oral health services at Universitas Syiah Kuala Dental Hospital. Methods: A descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted from September to October 2024. A total of 100 patients who had completed treatment at Universitas Syiah Kuala Dental Hospital were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire based on five dimensions of service quality: responsiveness, tangibles, reliability, assurance, and empathy. Results: The results showed a high level of patient satisfaction across all dimensions: responsiveness (97%), tangibles (88%), reliability (99%), assurance (98%), and empathy (99%). Conclusion: The overall level of patient satisfaction with dental and oral health services at Universitas Syiah Kuala Dental Hospital was found to be high, indicating that the hospital provides quality services aligned with patient expectations.

Abstract

Karies gigi adalah penyakit dengan prevalensi terbesar di seluruh dunia dan disebabkan oleh interaksi kompleks dari kerentanan gigi, nutrisi dan bakteri rongga mulut. Dilain sisi, perawatan penyakit gigi dan mulut memerlukan biaya yang tidak sedikit, bahkan ia merupakan jenis perawatan penyakit ke-4 yang termahal di negara-negara berkembang. Oleh karena itu, untuk mengantisipasi masalah ini kita perlu menitikberatkan perhatian kearah pencegahan karies gigi. Beberapa negara dengan status low income telah memperkenalkan program pencegahan dengan program pengunyahan permen karet bebas gula di sekolah-sekolah. Permen karet yang diperkenalkan pada anak-anak termasuk sorbitol dan xilitol. Evaluasi awal dari program kesehatan ini telah memberikan hasil yang memuaskan di Belize, namun kurang baik di Madagaskar. Efektifitas xilitol dalam hal reduksi karies gigi yang berbeda di beberapa negara mungkin saja terjadi karena adanya perbedaan profil epidemiologis dan keadaan sosial budaya yang berbeda pula. Hasil-hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemanis ini bersifat nonkariogenik dan bahkan dianggap sebagai bahan antikariogenik. Penggunaan permen karet yang mengandung xilitol telah dievaluasi dalam berbagai penelitian longitudinal, dan hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa pengunyahan permen karet yang mengandung xilitol dapat memberikan efek inhibitor jangka panjang terhadap karies bila digunakan dengan dosis, durasi, frekuensi, dan waktu yang tepat.

Abstract

Knowledge on the dental and oral health provides comprehension how to perform maintenance and efforts to prevent dental and oral diseases. Teachers can take on the role as a source of information for students that are expected to have enough knowledge about dental and oral health which is applied in the UKGS program. The aim of this study was to know how the level of knowledge of dental and oral health on teachers and students in primary schools with and without UKGS. The study was descriptive. Subject retrieval technique used total sampling with the total study subjects who met the inclusion criteria by 69 people from 39 teachers and 80 students, consists of 24 teachers and 64 students from SDN 16 (UKGS) then 15 teachers and 16 students from SDN 46 (non-UKGS). Measuring the level of dental and oral health knowledge conducted using questionnaires. The results of study showed that the level of dental and oral health knowledge on teachers and students in SDN 16 (UKGS) and SDN 46 (non-UKGS) had a good category with percentage of 87.5% for teachers and 82,8% for students in SDN 16 (UKGS) and 80% for teachers and 68,8% for students in SDN 46 (nonUKGS). Abstract

Background: Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) is an ulcerative disease in oral mucosa. These lesions are usually located on the non-keratinized oral mucosa with the characteristics of recurrent ulcerated lesions and the presence of pain. Some people affected by RAS will have various impacts on speech, swallowing, and chewing functions. Patients with RAS usually experience pain, and this impact greatly affects their quality of life. Objective: This study examined the relationship between RAS and patients' quality of life. Materials and Methods: This study is a cross-sectional observational study. The method of taking the subjects was done using consecutive sampling with 32 subjects. Data collection was carried out with objective and subjective data. Results: A significant relationship exists between RAS and patient quality of life p = 0.044 (Fisher's Exact Test,p0.05). There is a significant correlation between RAS and patient quality of life Spearman's correlation test, significance p0.05) with a value of p = 0.018 with a strength level of a correlation coefficient of 0.415, which means that it has a moderate level and a direction of the correlation is positive. Conclusion: Aspects of social functioning limitation and bodily pain are most influenced by the emergence of RAS lesions. There is a positive correlation between RAS and patients' quality of life.
