Abstract

Social protection is a right obtained by the migrant workers. Based on statistics in 2019, the number of women migrant workers was 44% higher than men migrant workers. Social protection is a guarantee provided by the government to protect its citizens who work both in country and abroad. This study aims to describe how women migrant workers interprets the social protection provided to them, especially related to health insurance. Health insurance is an obligation of the government, both the government of the country of origin and the recipient country for workers. This research was conducted on 5 women migrant workers in Hong Kong. The women migrant workers are them who are currently working or who have returned to Indonesia either because of the contract period has ended or because of layoffs. The study demonstrates three meanings of social protection for women migrant workers: assistance, security, and equity. Women migrant workers are able to interpret the social protection based on their experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of disaster preparedness among the community of Cikahuripan Village, Lembang Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency, in facing 4 natural hazards. A quantitative descriptive approach was used, applying the LIPI– UNESCO/ISDR (2006) instrument, which consists of four parameters: disaster risk knowledge, emergency response planning, early warning systems, and resource mobilization. A total of 98 respondents from all neighborhood units (RW) in the village were selected as the research sample. The results showed that the Community Preparedness Index (CPI) reached 74.2, which falls into the "Prepared" category. The highest score was in disaster risk knowledge (83.15), followed by emergency response planning (76.4), early warning systems (67), and the lowest score was in resource mobilization (46.5). The low score in resource mobilization indicates a lack of capacity among residents in organizing logistics, emergency funds, and asset protection during disasters. Based on these findings, a community-based intervention program named "SIAGA CIKAHURIPAN" was designed, focusing on simulation and training activities to enhance the community's ability to mobilize local resources. The program is structured to involve village authorities, community organizations, women, and youth as key actors. This research is expected to serve as a reference for disaster preparedness policy development and the implementation of community-based disaster management programs in high-risk rural areas

Abstract

Independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) constitutes a fundamental aspect of the lives of people with visual impairments, enabling them to live with autonomy rather than complete reliance on others. This study provides an empirical account of the independence of persons with visual impairments at Sentra Wyata Guna Bandung, analyzed across four dimensions: (1) responsibility, (2) autonomy, (3) initiative, and (4) self-control. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, participants were selected through purposive sampling, and data were collected using in-depth interviews, observation, and document review. The findings reveal that, in terms of responsibility, participants exhibited compliance with schedules and institutional regulations, demonstrated through consistent engagement in self-care and vocational training. Autonomy was reflected in their confidence to manage daily tasks independently and in their freedom to select training programs aligned with personal interests, thereby shaping orientation toward independent living after leaving the center. Initiative emerged in the proactive use of adaptive strategies in ADL and the independent utilization of assistive devices such as folding canes, talking watches, and braille slates. Nevertheless, challenges persisted in the domain of self-control, particularly with regard to vulnerability to emotional influences, partial limitations in ADL performance, and continued reliance on external support. In response, this study introduces a program to enhance the self-control of people with visual impairments in performing Activities of Daily Living (ADL) at Sentra Wyata Guna Bandung. The program seeks to reinforce the role of social workers as facilitators through three key strategies: (a) the development of training modules, (b) technical training in emotional regulation, ADL, and Orientation & Mobility (O&M), and (c) modification of assistive devices to foster greater independence.
