Abstract

Communities living close to forests can certainly be an important support for sustainable forest management. Their provision of and knowledge about forest sustainability is important as it impacts their lives. For this reason, the academic community of the Faculty of Forestry of Winaya Mukti University in Cikahuripan village conducted information sessions on forest sustainability aimed at changing the living behavior of people around the forest so that the existing forests are conserved and managed sustainably. The extension method used consists of the presentation of materials, discussions and the planting of forest seeds. As part of the community service activities conducted by the Unwim Faculty of Forestry academic community, they work with the people surrounding the forest in Cikahuripan village to protect the forest together by following the importance of the functions of the forest to the local people and obtaining relevant information. In addition, the residents of Cikahuripan village are willing to participate in the conservation of the forest by planting 300 seeds of acacia, mahogany, meranti and sengon forest plants.

Abstract

Masigit Kareumbi Game Park (Taman Buru Masigit Kareumbi or TBMK) is a conservation forest that can be used to accomodate game tourism with 12.42070 ha area. In 1998, PT. Prima Multi Sarana (PMS) was given permission to conduct pine resin extraction in 2005 in TBMK area of PT. PMS; however they disobeyed the code of conduct by taking away the wood forest products (Hasil Hutan Kayu or HHK) causing forest damage that leading to the change of land cover in TBMK area. The purpose of this research is to find out how much change of land cover in TBMK after the game park establishment, and the factors that affect the change. This study used spatial data method with SIG system and  Snowball Sampling technique in getting respondents’ samples. The result showed that TBMK in Cimanggung Adminiatrative Area had 468,66 ha land cover change in each closing type area from 1997 to 2017. The factors that cause the change of land cover in TBMK are the misuse of permission by PT. PMS, farmers activities in the area, unsettled area border, the lack of area guard and the socialization for the villagers, and the weakness of law enforcement

Abstract

Jawa Barat merupakan daerah rawan longsor, banjir dan lainnya. Kondisi alam ini memprihatinkan jika berlanjut sampai ke generasi berikut. Agen perubahan remaja perlu dipersiapkan untuk membawa masa depan hutan yang berkelanjutan. Fakultas Kehutanan Universitas Winaya Mukti melakukan pengabdian terhadap 43 remaja. Tema pengabdian adalah Kelestarian Hutan yang dilaksanakan pada 28 November 2023 – 23 Maret 2024 di Desa Ciwidey, Kecamatan Ciwidey, Kabupaten Bandung. Pelaksanaan pengabdian ini terdiri dari pemberian beberapa materi seperti pengenalan dasar-dasar hutan dan kehutanan, pemanfaatan hutan berkelanjutan, dasar-dasar konservasi, dasar-dasar organisasi kepemimpinan, dan praktik pengenalan flora dan fauna di Desa Ciwidey. Pengabdian ini memperoleh tanggapan positif dan meningkatkan pemahaman peserta sebesar 50,4%. Keberhasilan ini secara resmi membentuk komunitas Youth Forest Guardians, yang bertugas untuk menjaga kelestarian alam di Desa Ciwidey.
