Abstract

Learning languages is an important aspect of modern times that influences people's thinking which was studied by many researchers. Today the knowledge of different languages is becoming an increasingly significant aspect of volunteering, having a profound impact on its various aspects. This article discusses the importance of knowing foreign languages for developing empathy, improving communication skills, and expanding the worldview of volunteers using a questionnaire consisting of 12 questions divided into three main sections (empathy, communication skills, and worldview). Each section includes four questions related to the specific aspect that are given randomly. Responses were received from random respondents from various universities in Kazakhstan in Almaty through the use of a Likert scale in the questionnaire. This article, based on the collected materials and the results of other studies, shows that learning languages has a positive effect on the development of empathy, as it helps to better understand a person, and their mood, and can help to imagine yourself in the place of another. In addition, it shows how knowledge of languages affects the development of communication skills in a volunteer, as it helps to better understand a person, be a good listener and at the same time maintain a conversation. The data also showed that learning languages can have a positive impact on the development of things like motivation and analytical thinking and encourages people to try new things.

Abstract

This research aims to detect Differential Item Functioning (DIF) in the 2014/2015 National Examination Questions in mathematics of junior high schools and equivalent-level schools in the Yogyakarta region as a reference group and the South Kalimantan region as a focus group using the Likelihood Ratio Test (LRT) method, Area Measure Raju, and Lord. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to determine the most sensitive method. The data consisted of 5,465 National Examination papers of the students from the two regions who worked on type A questions. A sample of 1,000 exam papers for each region was established using the simple random sampling (SRS) technique, which was conducted to avoid the effect of sample size. The research results showed that by using the LRT method, the researchers found 36 items had significant DIF detection, 32 items were significant for Raju Area, and all items had significant DIF detection using Lord. Lord Method is the most sensitive method because it can detect most DIF items.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between subjective happiness and higher education students’ entrepreneurial intentions. In addition, the objective of this study is to find out whether entrepreneurship education was correlated with entrepreneurial intention of higher education student. Entrepreneurial activities are carried out as a way to overcome unemployment. One of the things that influence entrepreneurial behavior is entrepreneurial intention. Initiation and support for starting new businesses is an important task of policymakers as well as academics. Thus, higher education institutions play a very important role in developing entrepreneurial intention.  However, several previous studies stated that higher education students had low entrepreneurial intentions. Thus, research on entrepreneurial intentions among students is important to be conducted. This study examines entrepreneurial intentions and the factors that influence it, namely subjective happiness, family work background, and entrepreneurship education. The measuring instruments used in this study are the Subjective Happiness Scale and the Entrepreneurial Intention Scale which refers to the theory of planned behavior which states that intention can be seen from personal attitudes, social norms, and assessment of controlled behavior. The subjects of this study were 80 students, with particular subject characteristics such as 6th semester students who are enrolled in higher education institutions. The data analysis technique used is the Product Moment correlation test and the Independent Samples T-Test. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive relationship between subjective happiness and student entrepreneurial intentions. Thus, it can be stated that the higher the level of one's subjective happiness, the higher the entrepreneurial intention. In contrast, the lower a person's subjective happiness level, the lower his or her entrepreneurial intention of higher education students. This study also found that there is no relationship between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention of higher education students. This research can be a recommendation for higher education institution to boost subjective happiness of students in order to increase the student entrepreneurial intentions.    Â
