Abstract

Introduction; stroke is a cause of disability so that patients experience limitations in fulfilling daily living activities (ADL). Destination; developed a physical exercise model ROM to increase the independence of post-stroke patients in compliance. Method; quasi-experimental research using the one group pre and post-test design method. The sampling technique was nonprobability sampling with a consecutive sampling approach with a sample size of 18 post-stroke patients. The assessment of independence in compliance with ADL using the Bartel Index was carried out before the ROM intervention and at the end of the ROM intervention. Analysis of the effect of ROM on the independence of ADL compliance with the Wilcoxon Test. Results; showed that there was an effect of the ROM physical exercise model on the independence of post-stroke patients (p = 0.000). There was an increase in the mean independence of respondents after being given ROM physical training (44.4 ± 22.2 to 59.4 ± 16.1). Conclusion; ROM physical exercise model can increase the independence of post-stroke patients in fulfilling daily functional activities

Abstract

Aims: The study aimed to explore nurses’ experience in delivering holistic care among COVID-19 patients in designated care unit in Indonesian hospital. Methods: A qualitative study with phenomenology approach conducted. Population in this study were nurses from private and public hospital in West Java Province, Special Region of Yogyakarta and South Sulawesi. 10 participants recruited using purposive sampling with following inclusion criteria: taking care of COVID-19 patients and willingness to participate. Data collected through live interview, video calls and zoom meetings. Thematic data analysis was performed by understanding data or transcript results interview, composing codes and creating theme in accordance with the research purpose. Results: The study indicated 11 sub-themes and grouped into the three themes: 1) complains reported by COVID-19 patients, 2) Nurses’ intervention to fulfill physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs and 3) Nurses’ care as well as digital technology advantages as a means of therapeutic communication. The study discovered that nurses remain capable to fulfill needs of COVID-19 patients in a holistic approach. It includes the provision of physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs despite nurses experiencing inconvenient due to COVID -19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards. Conclusion: Holistic care is one mandatory consensus required to be carried out by nurses in taking care of COVID-19 patients as one interconnected bio - psycho - social- spiritual aspects. Holistic care for COVID-19 patients can take advantage of digital technology to fulfill it.

Abstract

Asthma is one of the deadliest diseases in Indonesia of which the prevalence continues to increase and influence the country’s economic burden. Appropriate intervention is needed to prevent recurrence. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of Balloon Blowing (BB) video instruction on the Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) of asthmatic patients at the Makassar Lung Health Centre. This research was done quantitatively using a quasi-experimental design approach, as well as using one pre- and post-test group, namely the Balloon Blowing Group. The sampling technique was Consecutive Sampling with a total of 22 samples that met the inclusion criteria. Before conducting the Balloon Blowing exercise, the researchers measured the Peak Expiratory Flow value using a Peak Flow Meter (PFM). Balloon Blowing intervention was then given five times a week for two weeks according to the video guidelines. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed that there was a significant difference in the Peak Expiratory Flow value before and after the Balloon Blowing intervention (ρ =0.000, ρ <0.05). Thus, the Balloon Blowing exercise is effective in increasing the Peak Expiratory Flow value in asthmatic patients.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive & irreversible impairment of kidney function. The replacement therapy in CKD that is widely chosen is hemodialysis. CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis should limit fluid intake during dialysis so that excess fluid does not occur, but the result of fluid restriction will trigger the onset of thirst so patients are less likely to adhere to the fluid intake diet. Slimber ice is an intervention of choice in the management of thirst. This study aims to analyze the effect slimber-ice against thirst intensity in hemodialysis patients with CKD at Stella Maris Hospital Makassar. The type of research used is Pre-Experimental with One Group Pre-Post Test Design. Sampling using the Non-Probability Sampling method with the Consecutive Sampling technique with a total sample of 40 respondents. This study provided intervention in hemodialysis patients with CKD in the form of slimber-ice. The implementation of the intervention begins with a Pre-Test (measurement of thirst intensity) using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) instrument, then giving slimber-ice for 5 weeks (2x a week) then a Post-Test is carried out. The results of the study described the majority of respondents aged 56-65 years, namely 15 respondents (37,5%), male gender 29 respondents (72,5%), high school last education 28 respondents (70%), & employment status was not working 22 respondents (55%), then the intensity of thirst before the intervention of the majority of moderate thirst was 29 respondents (72,5%) & after the majority of mild thirst 33 respondents (82,5%). Wilcoxon test analysis was obtained p = 0.000 ˂ α = 0.05 so that there was a significant effect slimber-ice agains thirst intensity in hemodialysis patients with CKD. Researchers recommend slimber-ice as one of the self-interventions in restraining thirst to prevent an imbalance of body fluids due to overhydration.

Abstract

Background: Stroke survivors face the challenge of living in a body that functions differently than before, which impacts their quality of life. Stroke rehabilitation is essential, as the principle of neuroplasticity supports recovery from disability, and this process continues when survivors undergo home-based rehabilitation. However, the factors influencing their quality of life remain unclear.Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the predictors of stroke survivors’ quality of life during home rehabilitation. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 142 stroke survivors recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Stroke Survivor Quality of Life (SS-QOL) questionnaire and an additional questionnaire assessing knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to home rehabilitation. Logistic regression was employed to examine predictors of stroke survivors’ quality of life. Results: Most respondents (59.15%) were men, with a mean age of 59.25 years (SD = 10.5). Many stroke survivors had a high quality of life (n = 92; 64.79%), good knowledge (n = 114; 80.28%), positive attitudes (n = 83; 58.5%), and a high level of home rehabilitation practice (n = 89; 62.68%). Significant correlations were found between knowledge (p < 0.001), attitude (p = 0.040), and practice (p = 0.001) with stroke survivors’ quality of life. Conclusion: This study indicates significant correlations between knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to home rehabilitation and stroke survivors’ quality of life. These findings provide valuable insights for nurses, emphasizing the importance of structured health education on home-based rehabilitation to enhance stroke survivors’ quality of life.
