Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with characteristics of hyperglycemia and one of the complications that can be caused by DM is hearing loss, especially sensorineural deafness. In type 2 DM patients whose HbA1c is not controlled will experience hearing loss in which DM it self will damage the auditory nerve which is commonly referred to as auditory nerve neuropathy. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between HbA1c and sensorineural hearing loss in type 2 DM patients. This study was an analytical study with a cross-sectional approach to 40 type 2 DM patients aged 40-65 years at Iman Martubung Clinic. Based the result are the most samples were women aged 51-60 years (62.5%). The results of the examination were dominated by HbA1C 6.5% and had sensorineural hearing loss as many as 28 people (87.5%) and the relationship between HbA1C and sensorineural hearing loss in type 2 DM patients with analytical techniques using Fisher's exact test with a value (p = 0.008) showed significant results between HbA1c and sensorineural hearing loss in type 2 DM patients. In this study, there was a connection between HbA1C and sensorineural hearing loss in type 2 DM patients.

Abstract

Abstrak: Otitis Media Supuratif Kronis (OMSK) adalah peradangan kronis mukosa telinga tengah dan mastoid, yang disertai perforasi membran timpani. OMSK dapat dikelompokkan menjadi dua tipe, yaitu OMSK tipe benigna (tanpa kolesteatoma) dan OMSK tipe maligna (dengan kolesteatoma). OMSK tipe benigna adalah berkurangnya fungsi pendengaran. Penyebab OMSK tipe benigna adalah bakteri seperti Pseudomonas aeruginosa dan Staphylococcus aureus. Pengobatan awal OMSK tipe benigna adalah pembersihan liang telinga dan pemberian antibiotik. Jika terapi awal tidak berhasil, maka penatalaksaan selanjutnya adalah pembedahan.Kata kunci: otitis media, perforasi membrane timpani,tipe benigna

Abstract

Latar belakang: Hiperkolesterolemia merupakan peningkatan kadar kolesterol dalam plasma dan faktor resiko berbagai penyakit kardiovaskular. Hiperkolesterolemia dapat menyebabkan komplikasi, salah satunya ialah gangguan pendengaran. Namun hubungan kejadian antara kadar kolesterol total dengan timbulnya gangguan pendengaran, saat ini masih menjadi perdebatan, karena belum adanya konsensus yang pasti. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui adanya hubungan antara kadar kolesterol total dengan gangguan pendengaran. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analitik dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Data diperoleh dari pemeriksaan kadar kolesterol total, pemeriksaan fisik telinga, hidung, dan tenggorokan dan pemeriksaan audiometri nada murni yang dilakukan terhadap 38 subjek di rumah sakit tipe B. Kemudian data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji chi square. Hasil: Didapatkan adanya hubungan antara kadar kolesterol total dengan gangguan pendengaran pada pasien dengan kadar kolesterol total ≥ 200 mg/dL (p = 0,001), dijumpai gangguan pendengaran yaitu sebanyak 52,6% dengan jenis gangguan pendengaran terbanyak adalah gangguan pendengaran sensorineural yaitu sebanyak 52,6%, dan derajat gangguan pendengaran terbanyak adalah derajat sedang yaitu sebanyak 45,4%. Kesimpulan: Dijumpai adanya hubungan yang bermakna antara kadar kolesterol total dengan gangguan pendengaran sensorineural.

Abstract

Abstract: Serum prop is an accumulation of a substance secreted by the sebaceous glands and seruminous composed also with corneal desquammation from the stratum corneum in the ear canal which can cause symptoms or interfere with the assessment of the ear canal, tympanic membrane, and audiovestibular system. Corrosive acetic acid can destroy serum prop as well as mineral oil as a lubricant that can make cerumen come out of the ear canal. This study aims to analyze the comparison of the effectiveness of 2% acetic acid and mineral oil on serum prop children of the Putri Aisyiyah Orphanage Medan in vitro at 5, 10, 15, and 30 minutes. This study is an in vitro experimental with a quasy experimental  type using a simple random sampling  technique involving 25 serum prop samples, each sample will be tested with 2% acetic acid and mineral oil with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The data collected were analyzed using the ANOVA repeated measures parametric test  and the non-parametric Kruskal wallis test. The intervention of 2% acetic acid and mineral oil  on in vitro cerumen  was most significant at 30 minutes, In comparison the effectiveness of 2% acetic acid  was obtained higher results than mineral oil  against in vitro cerumen which was known from the mean difference  in each test solution. 2% acetic acid has a higher effectiveness against in vitro  serum intervention compared to mineral oil.

Abstract

Stunting masih menjadi permasalahan kesehatan di Desa Kacung. Stunting merupakan kondisi dimana gangguan pertumbuhan linier pada anak disebabkan oleh tidak terpenuhinya cakupan nutrisi yang terjadi secara kronis. Stunting dapat mengakibatkan terganggunya pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak baik kognitif, motorik, dan verbal. Kegiatan ini merupakan kegiatan pengabdian berupa edukasi dan tanya jawab. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan menyatukan pemahaman masyarakat tentang faktor-faktor yang berkaitan dengan stunting. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di Desa Kacung pada bulan Agustus 2023. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang 1000 hari pertama kehidupan sebagai upaya pencegahan stunting berdasarkan nilai pretest dan posttest. Pada saat pretest rata-rata jawaban benar peserta empat dan pada posttest meningkat menjadi sembilan dari dua belas pertanyaan. Dengan adanya kegiatan edukasi ini, diharapkan tidak ada lagi pemahaman yang salah terkait faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan stunting. Sehingga bisa meningkatkan status gizi anak dan menurunkan angka stunting.

Abstract

Abstract: Cerumen impaction is a common otologic problem that can impair hearing and predispose individuals to external ear infections. This in vitro study aimed to compare the cerumenolytic effects of propolis and 3% hydrogen peroxide using spectrophotometric absorbance measurements at 5, 10, 15, and 30 minutes. A total of 48 cerumen samples were collected from children at Panti Asuhan Putri Aisyiyah Medan and divided equally into two treatment groups. Absorbance values were analyzed using non-parametric statistical tests due to non-normal data distribution. Propolis demonstrated a progressive increase in absorbance over time, reaching its highest effect at 30 minutes, whereas hydrogen peroxide showed minimal changes with no significant time-dependent pattern. Comparative analysis revealed that propolis produced significantly higher absorbance values than hydrogen peroxide at all time points (p 0.001), indicating superior cerumen dissolution. These findings suggest that propolis may serve as a more effective and potentially safer alternative to hydrogen peroxide for cerumen management. Further in vivo and clinical studies are recommended to validate its therapeutic applicability and long-term safety.
