Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to examine the style of Arabic literature during the time of Jahiliyah, Shadr Islam (the beginning of Islam) and Umawiyah. The method used in this study is the analytical descriptive method, namely by describing how the form or pattern of Arabic literature during the time of Jahiliyah, Shadr Islam (the beginning of Islam) and Umawiyah. While the approach applied in this study is a historical approach, where researchers look for histories related to the style of Arabic literature during the Jahiliyah, Shadr Islam (the beginning of Islam) and Umawiyah. The results of this research are 1) in the Jahiliyah era, the style of Prose and Poetry in this era is almost the same, starting from the lafadznya which is clear and eloquent, has a deep meaning, rhymes. Prose at this time also consisted of Sermons, Testaments, Matsals, Hikmah, and Qissoh. 2) Shadr Islam In this age Prose and Poetry also developed, but Prose was much more developed than poetry. Especially in the Khutbah, this is because at this time the Khutbah is used to ignite the spirit of the warriors to fight to spread Islam. While poetry has not developed enough, this is because poets at this time are busy fighting and studying the Qur'an and hadith. So, in terms of meaning, imagination, lafadz, and language style do not achieve high dignity. Prose at this time included the Khutbah, Matsal, and Kitabah. 3) The Age of the Umayyad Dynasty, in this age Prose and Poetry are much developed rapidly compared to the previous two eras. This development was due to the emergence of political parties so that many sermons and poems developed to support their respective parties, and this became a source of income for poets. However, at this time poetry had begun to deviate from its original purpose of spreading Islam using good language, but after the establishment of the Umayyads they used the politics of violence and deceit which made it compulsory to buy oral poets. Prose at this time included the Khutbah, Rasail, and Kitabah which in terms of language imitated and decorated from the language style of the Qur'an which was smooth, clear, and had a deep meaning.

Abstract

This study is entitled A Comparative Analysis of Arabic and English Language Literacy in Islamic and General Universities: Students' and Lecturers’ Perspectives . It aims to compare the literacy conditions of Arabic and English in two types of universities and identify perceptions, teaching strategies, and factors influencing language proficiency from students' and lecturers’ perspectives. The research employed a qualitative approach with a comparative case study design, involving in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis at two higher education institutions. Participants included 12 students and 6 lecturers. Findings revealed significant differences in motivation, usage practices, and language policy between the two university types. Students at Islamic universities showed greater focus on Arabic, while those at general universities prioritized English. However, both groups faced similar challenges in active language production. Recommendations are provided to improve teaching strategies and align language policy implementation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna dan struktur kalimat nominal dalam Surah Al-Ma‘ārij dengan pendekatan sintaksis-pragmatik. Kalimat nominal dalam bahasa Arab memiliki karakteristik makna yang menetap dan penuh penegasan, yang dalam konteks Al-Qur’an berfungsi sebagai alat retoris dan pembentuk kesadaran spiritual. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif dengan teknik analisis isi terhadap ayat-ayat yang memuat jumlah ismiyyah. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa struktur kalimat nominal dalam surah ini tersusun dengan pola-pola seperti mubtada’–khabar dan partikel penegas inna, yang menegaskan stabilitas makna. Secara pragmatik, kalimat nominal digunakan untuk memperkuat pesan wahyu, memberikan peringatan, serta membentuk respons emosional dan kognitif pembaca. Fungsi komunikatif kalimat nominal dalam surah ini juga terlihat dalam penegasan nilai-nilai keimanan, karakter manusia, dan gambaran tentang akhirat.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the interrelation between syntax, semantics, and pragmatics within the structure of nominal sentences (jumlah ismiyyah). Employing a syntactic-pragmatic approach, the research examines how the grammatical construction of nominal sentences influences meaning and interpretation within specific contextual frameworks. This study adopts a library research methodology, with data drawn from Qur'anic verses containing nominal sentence patterns found in Surah al-Ma'arij. Through comprehensive analysis, the study reveals that Surah al-Ma'arij features a variety of nominal sentence structures, each associated with distinct pragmatic functions. These include the expression of specification (taḫṣīṣ), continuity and permanence (al-istimrār wa al-dawām), emphasis and caution (al-ihtimām wa al-ʿināyah), as well as the acceleration of joy or adversity (litaʿjīl al-masarrat aw al-masāʾah). The findings demonstrate that nominal sentences in the Qur'anic context do not merely convey static information but also embody pragmatic dimensions that enhance the communicative impact of the text. Accordingly, this study underscores the significance of syntactic-pragmatic analysis in elucidating the intricate relationship between linguistic form and communicative function, particularly in the interpretation of religious texts such as the Qur'an

Abstract

Background: Arabic learning media using the Articulate Storyline application has not been developed much to improve listening skills.  Objective: This study aims to develop one of the Arabic learning media that can improve listening proficiency through the use of the Articulate Storyline application in Madrasah Tsanawiyah students. Method: This research uses the RnD method. The development model follows Dick and Carry's opinion with the ADDIE model: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection procedures are obtained through, observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests.  The research instrument uses questionnaires. The source of data was obtained from an Arabic teacher, 20 students, and 3 experts. Data analysis techniques use descriptive analysis in percentage form using a paired sample t-test formula. Distribution of questionnaires to students and provision of tests in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. Each test has 20 questions. Researchers conducted a normality test using the Kolmogrof-Simirnov test one sample test. For quantitative data response questionnaires, presentations were processed using Likert scales (4) Very good, (3) Good, (2) Sufficient, and (1) less. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the Arabic learning media based on the Articulate Storyline application was declared very good, and could increase students' interest in learning. This is based on: (1) an Assessment of material experts with a percentage of 97% of criteria and Very feasible and an Assessment of media experts with a percentage of 75% of feasible criteria. (2) Student assessment through response questionnaires, obtained a percentage of 94% so that it is classified as very feasible criteria. (3) Pretest, obtained an average score of 56.80% in the sufficient category, post-test test 85% in the eligible category.  Conclusion and Implication: The conclusion of this study shows that articulate storyline learning media can be accepted by students and teachers as Arabic learning media that can be a solution to the problem of learning listening skills at the Madrasah level. The implication of the research is that application-based media articulate storyline is one of the best tools needed in learning foreign languages and improving language proficiency.

Abstract

Background:  The importance of foreign language skills in the face of an increasingly connected era of globalization and increasing demand for learning Arabic as an official language in more than 20 countries. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the need to learn Arabic as a foreign language in the context of higher education. Method: The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through surveys and interviews with active students of Arabic learning programs and lecturers who teach Arabic. Results and Discussion: The results showed that students have an academic goal to master Islamic religious texts and a professional goal to increase career opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa region. Students' motivations for learning Arabic include religious, cultural, and professional factors. Challenges students face in learning Arabic include the complexity of Arabic grammar and writing systems, lack of opportunities for language practice outside the classroom, and limited learning resources. Lecturers recognize the importance of focusing on developing Arabic communication skills and supporting language practice outside the classroom through social activities. Conclusions and Implications: The conclusions of this study emphasize the importance of developing Arabic learning programs that integrate the language in a variety of communication contexts, improve access to learning resources, create inclusive and innovative learning environments, and provide support in Arabic practice outside the classroom. The implications of this research are expected to increase the effectiveness of Arabic language learning in higher education environments so that students can develop Arabic language skills and understanding of Arabic culture more comprehensively and relevantly in facing the challenges of globalization.

Abstract

Background: The problem that arises in Arabic language learning carried out by MAN 1 Brebes is the difficulty of reading Arabic texts and translating them into three aspects, namely, linguistic aspects, non-linguistic aspects, and cultural aspects. Purpose: This study focused on Arabic language learning in MAN 1 Brebes. The main is the application of Qira’ah and Tarjamah methods. This method teaches Arabic grammar first and then translates. Method: This research uses a type of descriptive qualitative research. The data collected and analyzed is in the form of words and images and is not related to numbers. Results and Discussion: The strategies in qiroah learning used by MAN 1 Brebes teachers are: The first stage, qira’ah Jahriah or reading aloud, has a very high significance for first-level learning because this type focuses on practicing pronouncing vocabulary or letters correctly so that students understand between the sound of hijaiyyah letters and the symbol of the sound or hijaiyyah letters. The second stage is to read silently. In reading silently, students are trained to deepen the material. Students understand the meaning of words, the meaning of words within sentences, and the overall meaning of sentences in paragraphs. At the last stage in qiro’ah learning, the teacher analyzes the grammar in the qiroah reading text. This grammatical analysis is not only to understand the manuscript but also to strengthen the grammatical material that has been given previously. Conclusion and Implications: Qiro’ah teaching strategies with the Tarjamah grammar method in MAN 1 Brebes can be summed up into three categories: qiro’ah strategies, Tarjamah grammar methods, and learning techniques. The use of the Qiraah Wa Tarjamah strategy in Arabic language learning at MAN 1 Brebes effectively enhances students' text comprehension, making it advisable to be widely implemented with the development of teaching materials, teacher training, and appropriate evaluation.

Abstract

Background: This research was conducted due to interest in the learning of the Arabic language at the An-Najah student Islamic boarding school in Purwokerto, especially in the Foreign Language complex called the An-Najah Arabic Javanese English Community (AArJEC). There, the students appeared happy to learn because of the teacher's creativity in teaching, which helped them understand the Arabic language easily. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe the learning models of mahārah al-istimā' and mahārah al-kalām at the An-Najah Student Islamic Boarding School in Purwokerto. Method: This research employs a descriptive qualitative research approach to investigate the Learning Model of mahārah al-istimā' (listening skills) and mahārah al-kalām (speaking skills), with data sources obtained from students at the An-Najah Islamic Boarding School in Purwokerto. The data collection process involved interviews, participatory observation, and documentary study, with data analysis techniques including data reduction, data presentation, and verification. Results and Discussion: The research findings show that the learning models used for mahārah al-istimā' were the niteni (observing) model and the translation model. As for the Mahārah al-kalām learning models, they included the free conversation model as well as language activity models such as khitabah (public speaking), theatre, and Arabic discussion forums. Conclusions and Implications: The learning of mahārah al-istimā' and al-Kalam at the An-Najah Islamic Boarding School utilizes the Niteni and Translation models, which combine active listening, vocabulary acquisition, and contextual understanding. These findings can be considered in the development of Arabic language curriculum and teaching methodologies.

Abstract

Surah Luqman, the 31st chapter of the Quran, is situated in the 21st juz and comprises 34 verses. This Meccan surah is the focus of our research, which employs a semantic approach (ilm adh-dilalah) to analyze syntagmatic components, particularly in verses 12-15. The study utilizes a literature review methodology, concentrating on componential analysis and syntagmatic relationships between lexical elements. Our objective is to gain a profound understanding of sentence structures, explore meaning relationships among syntagmatic components, and analyze semantic field implications. The research findings demonstrate that applying componential and syntagmatic analyses provides enhanced comprehension of sentence structures and their inherent meaning relationships. The examined verses offer deep insights into the moral messages and practical guidance in Surah Luqman, especially concerning gratitude to Allah, avoiding polytheism, kindness to parents, and performing prayers. This study contributes to the linguistic understanding of sentence structures within a religious context and enriches the interpretation of these verses from a linguistic perspective. By bridging linguistic analysis with Quranic exegesis, this research opens new avenues for interdisciplinary studies in Islamic linguistics and hermeneutics, potentially informing both scholarly discourse and practical application of Quranic teachings.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis makna kiasan dalam syair "معاذ ملاذٌ لزواده" karya Al-Mutanabbi, seorang penyair terkemuka dalam sastra Arab klasik yang dikenal dengan kedalaman filosofis dan keagungan bahasanya. Syair ini memanfaatkan kiasan untuk menggambarkan kemuliaan dan tantangan yang dihadapi oleh sosok Mu'adh, dengan fokus yang lebih personal dibandingkan dengan karya-karya Al-Mutanabbi lainnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan analisis sastra untuk mengidentifikasi dan menginterpretasikan makna kiasan dalam teks syair, didukung oleh literatur sekunder yang relevan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat makna kiasan dalam syair Al-Mutanabbi dengan judul "معاذ ملاذ لزواده". Hal ini dibuktikan dengan kata-kata seperti "ملاذ" (tempat perlindungan), "الحطيم" (tembok Ka'bah), dan "زمزم" (sumur suci) yang merujuk pada simbol-simbol agama yang berarti tempat-tempat suci. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa kiasan dalam syair ini menggunakan simbol-simbol keagamaan dan metafora untuk menekankan status dan kehormatan Mu'adh, dan tetap relevan dalam konteks modern. Kontribusi khusus dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana analisis kiasan ini memberikan wawasan baru dalam memahami teknik sastra Al-Mutanabbi dan aplikasinya di zaman sekarang, serta mengungkap relevansi nilai-nilai yang diangkat dalam syair terhadap tantangan dan kepemimpinan kontemporer. Artikel ini berkontribusi pada studi sastra Arab klasik dengan menghubungkan teknik kiasan dengan konteks kehidupan masa kini, menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai dalam syair Al-Mutanabbi tetap memiliki aplikasi yang signifikan hingga saat ini.
