Abstract

This study aims to identify phonemes’ changing in NF rap song, in terms of the types of phonological rules in vowels and consonants; assimilation, dissimilation, and deletion. Furthermore, this study figures out how these phonological rules are formed. The rap song Story NF is chosen as the object study in terms of research on phoneme analysis in rap song is still limited. This research applied a qualitative approach. This research employs Lass' (1984) theory as the main theory to analyze data. The data found fifty cases which consist of six regressive assimilation, nine progressive assimilation, four fusional assimilation, two dissimilation, and thirty-three deletion processes. They consist of twenty-two aphaeresis, four syncope, and seven apocope. The findings show that progressive assimilation is the most frequently applied process from the assimilation aspect. At the same time, aphaeresis is the most commonly used process in the deletion aspect, highlighting how connected speech is naturally formed to adapt to the rhythm-driven nature of rap music. All of this connected speech occurs because of rapid speech.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to establish an environment for critical thinking in a vocabulary course at Universitas Pamulang by implementing Socratic questioning. The use of Socratic questioning aimed to reinforce students' techniques for mastering language and enhance their vocabulary skills. The participants in this study were students enrolled in the first semester of the English Department at Universitas Pamulang. The research followed a Classroom Action research design, which included two cycles of action implementation, class observation, and result analysis. The study utilized observation lists, questionnaires, and a vocabulary test as instruments. The data underwent qualitative analysis, which revealed that the average scores in each cycle demonstrated an upward trend from the pretest to the post-test. However, in the subsequent phase, a fluctuating, steady, and declining score was observed. The students employed Socratic questioning during the vocabulary test. The findings have shown that the use of Socratic inquiry effectively enhances critical thinking among students and facilitates vocabulary learning by prompting reevaluation. Consequently, it motivates students to engage in reflective thinking and provide precise answers.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the semiotics representations that are found at the G20 Bali Bilboard, which are platforms that provide the public with information and support. This study applied Pierce’s theory This study focuses on the symbols, icons, and indexes that are displayed on the billboard for the G20 meeting in Bali. An approach known as qualitative research was utilized for this study, and the results were provided in the form of both visuals and text. Through the use of the images and the wording in the advertisement, analysis was applied to generate a distinct differentiation between symbols, icons, and index. The study found that the meaning of G20’s Bali Billboard advertisement led to invitation to all members of G20 to recover and stronger together after Covid Pandemic, in terms of economics, health, and climate exchange.
