Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in basic physics courses. The purpose of this study was to analyze high learning outcomes as a result of the application of problem-based learning with a basic calculus approach. The samples of this study were students majoring in mining ISTP Medan and students majoring in physics, University of North Sumatra, TA 2019/2020 academic year, totaling 35 people as one sample group. Thi research is a Quasi-experimental one group design. The technique in analyzing the pretest and posttest data is the analysis of the gain value (Gain Score). To see the learning outcomes, a learning outcome test is used and a gain test is used to improve learning outcomes. The results showed that there was an increase in gain at each high meeting, it was concluded that the benefits of problem-based learning strategies with the basic calculus approach could increase student learning outcomes. The implication of this research resulted in a strong stimulus to make basic physics teaching materials using the basic calculus approach even greater and more positive.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students to apply mathematical solving methods to analytic physics. The purpose of this research is to show the implementation of small term reduction in Taylor series on analytic physics problems. The analytical physics material described in this study is the pendulum oscillation material, heat conduction and the perturbation quantum state function. This research method involves a mathematical derivation of the Taylor series formation. The epicenter of the idea of reducing the Taylor series in this study is the use of very small terms in the Taylor series to reduce terms with values reaching towards zero, namely the third term and the fourth term. This small term reduction method is spread into problems of mechanics, oscillations, heat, electricity, magnetism and quantum mechanics. The results of this study show that after using the small term reduction principle, the equations to be solved are like first-order and second-order differential equations. By solving these equations we get a variable physical quantity.

Abstract

This research was based on showing how the relationship of the perturbation method to the wave function entering the dispersive medium area. Disperse medium is a medium where when the wave enters the area, it experiences changes in wave shape and wave energy. The purpose of this study is to show how the perturbation method can be reduced to a term that is still linear with the assumption that the next term is very small so that the wave term is still linear to the wave change. This research is qualitative research. The place of this research is at the TD Pardede Institute of Science and Technology. From the analysis in this study, it was found that the wave experienced a decreasing intensity towards the depth of the dispersive medium with the assumption that the attenuation coefficient ( ) was still continuous along the depth of the material passed by the wave. In the case of seismic waves when the wave moves through the medium, its intensity decreases with distance. The presence of disturbances in the layer passed by the wave causes the shift of the material to experience a disturbance characteristic where the wave amplitude is getting smaller. This is because the absorption of wave energy by the particles of the dispersive medium continues to experience attenuation.
