Abstract

This paper offers a critical interpretation of public relations (PR) generic principles application in faith-based women organization. In particular, this paper examines whether this organization should manage PR in separate management. This study takes up the PR application in the Central Board of Aisyiyah (CBA) since it subordinated the PR function to a secretary in the administrative period from 2010 down to date, whereas it engaged with PR as a single department on 2005-2010. This subordination turns into vice versa application of the generic principle because if the significant contribution of PR considered, its application pattern should be run from subordinative, as a part of another department, into an integrative management function. Therefore, this paper elaborates on the PR application in both periods and the factors working on it. The research method was a case study using the four models of PR, from Hunt and Grunig, as an analysis framework. The results indicate that there is no significant difference between the period of subordination and before. The factors that influenced its applications are knowledge and skill, shared expectations, participative culture, and organizational identity. Thus, the results have theoretical and practical implications for PR application in faith-based women organizations.Keywords: Public Relations Application, The Four Models, Aisyiyah, Faith-Based WomenOrganization.

Abstract

Program intensif pemberantasan buta aksara pada kaum ibu Jamaah Pengajian Masjid Al Mubarok ini ditujukan untuk mengurangi tingkat buta aksara huruf Arab (hijaiyyah) di lingkungan sekitar kampus Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah kaum Ibu yang merupakan anggota jamaah pengajian Masjid Al Mubarak, RT 002, Tegalrejo, Tamantirto, Kasihan, Bantul. Studi pendahuluan melalui uji kompetensi dasar menunjukkan bahwa sekitar 95% peserta belum mampu membaca sebagian huruf-huruf hijaiyah secara sempurna sesuai tajwid. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengajarkan sekaligus me-review kompetensi warga belajar dalam membaca Al-Quran melalui metode CBSA (Cara Belajar Santri Aktif) Buku Iqra yang dilakukan selama 20 kali pertemuan. Selain itu, kegiatan pengabdian ini juga diperluas dengan pengembangan manajemen pelaksanaan program sekaligus peningkatan motivasi warga belajar untuk selalu bersemangat menuntut ilmu. Peserta aktif dari kaum ibu dengan indikator menghadiri pelatihan sekurang-kurangnya 10 kali pertemuan (50% dari total pertemuan) ada 16 orang. Adapun peserta yang dinyatakan berhasil mengenal dan melafadzkan huruf hijayyah sesuai makharijul huruf-nya pada pelatihan buta aksara huruf hijaiyyah tingkat dasar ini ada 12 orang. Dengan prosentase keberhasilan sebesar 75%, dapat disimpulkan bahwa program ini telah berhasil meningkatkan kapasitas melek aksara huruf hijaiyyah secara efektif dan perlu untuk dilanjutkan.

This community service program is aimed at (1) improving teacher skills in designing fiction scripts in the form of making children's story books, (2) increasing the positive reputation of the teacher education institution concerned through increasing teacher expertise, the work produced and related positive publications in the mass media, and (3) increasing the intellectual property owned by the teacher in question himself. The participants of this activity were PAUD KB KB teachers 'Aisyiyah Surya Melati, Brajan, Tamantirto, Kasihan, Bantul. Preliminary studies through observation showed that none of these family planning teachers had published children's stories even though they had been struggling with the world of children's education for a long time. Therefore, this program was designed in the form of training in writing children's stories as well as assistance in the publication of these stories. There are 20 participants. This empowerment resulted in an anthology of children's stories with ISBN entitled "Pendar-Pendar Hikmah untuk Si Buah Hati".

Abstract

This paper offers an elaboration to develop a communication strategy in empowering marginalized urban communities for creating a harmonious society in relation to the government. Besides, this paper outlines the influence factors related. Hence, marginal urban community in Ledok Timoho and Ledok Tukangan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, are appropriate representations for empowerment communication applications that have different relations with the government. In this case, the Ledok Tukangan community is a portrayal of an urban marginal community who has a harmonious relationship with the government. Contrarily, Ledok Timoho community is an urban marginal community’s depiction who has more independent from government intervention. The research design is a case study using the strategic planning of communication theory as an analytical framework. The results revealed that the relationship with the government influenced the process and governance of community empowerment. The agents involved and the culture of the community are significant factors. This study also found a new government-community relationship model in community empowerment domain as theoretical implications arose. Furthermore, the practical implications emerged for government and non-government agents involved in the process of community empowerment communication.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication style has an important role in the formation of the character of students. The purpose of this research is to describe the ustadz's interpersonal communication style towards students in character building at the Ar-Risalah Mlangi Islamic Boarding School and identify the factors that influence it. This research is a qualitative descriptive study by taking the research location at the Ar-Risalah Mlangi Islamic Boarding School, Yogyakarta. The process of collecting data was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the equalitarian style is the most dominant communication style used by ustadz in character building. This is because ustadz can build a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and have a two-way flow of communication and produce good feedback or responses from students. Supporting factors that influence the process of character formation is by carrying out prayer attendance as well as teaching and learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to elaborate on the use of new media in the public relations of faith-based health institutions during the pandemic. Besides, this research is aimed at exploring the audience engagement from it. This research was conducted considering that theoretically, enrichment is needed to map how public relations in faith-based health institutions interact through new media to bridge the relationship between institutions and stakeholders, preach the faith mission, and develop a positive reputation for the institution. In practical terms, the study in the field is crucial to becoming lessons learned for policymakers at related institutions. This research took a case study at the PKU Muhammaidyah Hospital of Yogyakarta City. The institution was chosen because it represents a health institution under the official auspices of one of the most prominent faith-based organizations in the world, Muhammadiyah, and uses new media intensively to communicate with stakeholders during the pandemic. This type of research is mixed-method research with a qualitative approach using percentage statistical data. Data collection techniques used are documentation through the Instagram contents of PKU Muhammadiyah of Yogyakarta City. The findings show that the use of Instagram by PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Yogyakarta City has reflected a weighting that is in accordance with the character of the organization as a faith-based health institution. Audience effect conversions are dominated by product branding content. The discourse raised in the communication process through new media in this study is how to combine religious messages with product and corporate branding.

Abstract

Majalah Suara Muhammadiyah merupakan salah satu media massa yang memiliki peran penting dalam menyampaikan informasi dan pendidikan bagi masyarakat. Untuk mempertahankan eksistensi korporasinya sebagai majalah tertua di Indonesia, majalah tersebut harus menerapkan strategi public relations yang tepat. Strategi PR yang diterapkan oleh majalah Suara Muhammadiyah meliputi, membangun hubungan yang baik dengan pembaca dan komunitas yang relevan, menyediakan konten yang bermanfaat dan menarik, mempromosikan majalah dan meningkatkan brand awareness, serta menjaga reputasi majalah dengan selalu berpegang pada etikajurnalistik dan profesionalisme. Selain itu, majalah tersebut juga harusmenjaga komunikasi yang baik dengan para pemangku kepentingan (stakeholder) penting dan bekerjasama dengan pihak lain dalam memberikan konten yang berkualitas dan menarik.

Abstract

This research aims to examine, from a semiotic perspective, the visual characteristics of the branding of the Yogyakarta Special Region Communication and Information Service (Kominfo DIY) conveyed through Instagram content. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach using Roland Barthes' semiotic model on the visual elements of Instagram content in the form of illustrations, colors, typography and layout. The Kominfo DIY Instagram content, uploaded in February 2023, is the unit of analysis for this research. Documentation of the unit of analysis and secondary data was carried out as a data collection technique. The findings show that the visual characteristics of Kominfo DIY branding through Instagram content are effective. This can be seen from the formal dynamic pattern used. This pattern can be seen in the consistency of color patterns, typography and layout. The illustrations used tend to be varied and attention-grabbing. Theoretically, these findings show a formal-dynamic pattern of visual branding in Instagram content that can be practically adopted by government organiZations to convey an official and engaging message.

Abstract

The company's reputation is important to each company because it is the sum total of what people think about the company. For a company, managing and maintaining a reputation is more complex than just selling products or services to consumers. It takes time for a company to establish a reputation and when it is established, and it can be difficult to maintain it, since there must be many competing interests in the same field.
