Abstract

Post Ovulatory Egg Stasis or dystocia is difficulty releasing eggs. The incident was experienced by a female snake due to an obstructive tract. A four years old corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus) female with clinical symptoms that appear are anorexia for two weeks. The condition of the coelomic cavity is still large after 7 days of laying eggs. The results of physical examination showed that the snake had a distended coelomic cavity, pale mucous membrane, hard and smooth palpation when palpated. The results of x-ray examination showed that there was an oval radiopaque formation in the coelomic cavity. Coeliotomy surgery is performed to remove the eggs by the salpingotomy method. The general anesthetic used was a combination of zolazepam-tiletamine at a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight and meloxicam 0,1 mg/kg body weight was given. Postoperative therapy was oxytetracycline 10 mg/kg body weight, dexamethasone 5 mg/kg body weight and vigantol E® 0,1 mg/kg body weight. The general condition of the snake after 5 days improved and the wound had dried up. Then 2 weeks after surgery the stitches in the skin were removed when shedding of the skin.

Abstract

A golden hornbill (Rhyticeros undulates), male, one year old, reported clinical signs that one of the legs was limping. Based on the X-ray examination reported that there was a fracture of the tibiotarsus bone. External skeletal fixation (ESF) was performed for connecting bones using size 1,2 pins. The general anesthetic used was a combination of zolazepam-tiletamine at a dose of 5 mg/kgBW and given 0,1 mg/kgBW meloxicam. Postoperative therapy includes enrofloxacin at a dose of 15 mg/kg intramuscularly, dexamethasone at a dose of 0,2 mg/kgBW intramuscularly, and Osteocare® at a dose of 5 mg/kg orally. After five days postoperatively, the bird's condition had returned to normal. It can be concluded that fractures in birds can be treated using the ESF method.

Abstract

This study aims to compare PLT (Platelet) and MPV (Mean Platelet Volume) in domestic pet cats and stray cats in Surabaya. This examination uses a blood sample with a total of 30 samples of domestic pet cats and 30 samples of stray cats. PLT and MPV were determined by Pacar Laboratory Surabaya. The results showed that 4 samples of cats that had abnormal PLT and MPV values with an average PLT of PLT 86,25 10^3/µL and an average MPV 6,95 fL, while 30 samples were obtained in domestic pet cats there were samples of cats that abnormal PLT and MPV values with an average PLT 94,5 10^3/µL and an average MPV 8,98 fL. Data analysis used an independent sample t-test for Windows with a significant level of 0,05. The result of data analysis showed not significant. In conclusion between domestic pets cats and stray cats was that the treatment did not experience a significant difference because the care and feeding were almost the same.

Abstract

Inguinal hernia is a protrusion of abdominal contents through an inguinal canal in the abdominal cavity. A female domestic two months year old kitten found with abdominal enlargement in ventral area and a mass that can be pushed inward. Physical examination and radiographic imaging showed that the cat had an inguinal hernia. Hematology test showed in the normal range. X-Ray examination showed the visceral out of the abdomen but still in the skin. Based on the results of physical and clinical examinations this cat are diagnosed with inguinal hernia with fausta prognosis. Laparotomy is performed to return the organs into the abdomen and closed the hernia ring with simple interrupted pattern, 3.0 absorbable polyglycolic acid. Postoperatively, cefotaxime sodium injection antibiotics were given and then continued with amoxicillin with dose 20 mg/kg BB and mefenamic acid with dose 16 mg/kg BB and nonsteroidal inflammation tolfenamic acid (0,1 ml/kg BB). The incision wound is healing in 7 days after surgery.
