Abstract

Background and purpose: Indonesia has made several regulations to tackle the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, including large scale social limitation (Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB)). This regulation is related to physical distancing in all sectors and activities, including religious activities. But efforts made by government and other organizations are not enough to ensure society that these regulations will not affect their religiosity. To strengthen this policy, majelis ulama Indonesia (MUI) and other Islamic organizations have made fatwa and official statement about how worships, especially those which are done in groups should be conducted during this pandemic. This paper aims to provide report and analysis of Islamic organizations response during pandemic in relation to Islamic worships during COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia Methods: This is a case study of Islamic organizations response during pandemic. It includes Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI), Muhammadiyah, and Nahdlatul Ulama responses (fatwa and official statement) to this issue and public responses as well. COVID-19 case also compared to vaccine hesitancy case, due to similarities of Islamic organization response between them. Results: Some fatwas had been made by MUI as response to Islamic worships performance during pandemic. But still there were cases like Banjarbaru and Solo case, indicating that fatwas could not guarantee the success of COVID-19prevention in religious worships. Conclusion: Religious and community leaders are needed to strengthen government move by helping government promote and educate people about health issues from religious perspectives. Moreover, some kinds of punishment made by government are needed to strengthen fatwas and rulings, as most of these religious opinions do not have legal enforcement.

Abstract

Background: Healthcare utilization is a predictor of health status among the population. The issues of its accessibility and equity have been raised, particularly after the government launched JKN (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional) Aim: This study aims to analyze the determinants of inpatient care utilization in East Nusa Tenggara. Method: We used SUSENAS 2019 dataset and carried out descriptive and econometrics analysis to covariates including age, gender, educational level, type of health insurance, employment status, and type of residence. Result: We found that all covariates analyzed were statistically significant in affecting the probability of inpatient care utilization (p-value<0.005). Different patterns of sociodemographic factors among people in East Nusa Tenggara will affect their rate of inpatient care utilization.  Conclusion: Inpatient care utilization rate is crucial to measure health accessibility and prevent any aggravated morbidity due to delayed treatment. Strategies to increase inpatient care utilization are needed to provide accessible treatment for all and increasing population health status. Abstract

This editorial article highlights the important role of strengthening the maternal and child health system for the overall increase of the nation’s productivity, as well as the achievement of Indonesia Emas 2045. The discussion emphasized accessibility of maternal health services in community health services like Posyandu through readiness of health cadres, especially after the government implemented Integrated Primary Health Services or Integrasi Layanan Primer (ILP). Moreover, the implementation of exclusive breastfeeding was found to be significantly associated with stunting, making it a pivotal program to decrease stunting prevalence and increase infants’ health quality. Although some challenges like geographic barriers, limitation of knowledge and education, as well as low household income existed, investing in the maternal and child health system would solve the problem of the high mortality rate among mothers and infants. As Indonesia Emas 2045 was set as national development goals, the article stands up for better quality of maternal and child health in Indonesia through collaboration across sectors with an inclusive decision-making process. Keywords: Child health, health system, infant health, maternal health.
