Abstract

Despite a large number of MSMEs in Indonesia, the contribution of the MSMEs to the country's GDP is relatively low. Some of the obstacles faced by MSMEs in Indonesia include access to capital, human resources, and supporting facilities. These obstacles were also faced by one of the local MSMEs, for instance Food and Beverage industry/service (F&B) that wanted to expand its business but was constrained by access to capital. Furthermore, the lack of evaluation of the performance of MSMEs is also a crucial problem, resulting in the lowest performance improvement plan. This paper describes a business coaching program for one of the local F&B MSMEs by building the financial projection and measuring digital marketing activities. Thus, MSMEs can be more accountable in seeking funding and evaluate their digital marketing performance continuously. This business coaching program is expected to increase access to capital and increase the productivity of MSMEs in Indonesia. By building financial projection and measuring digital marketing, MSME can define more specific targets and evaluate its attainment regularly. In order to accelerate the competence of MSMEs to be more competitive and productive, support from various parties is needed to overcome their obstacles.

Abstract

SMEs have a significant contribution to the stability and development of the Indonesian economy but are not balanced by the productivity of the SMEs themselves. This problem can be solved if Business Coaching is carried out with accurate business analysis or strategy. This paper discusses a business coaching program for one of the potential SMEs that runs a contractor, interior design, and special furniture business. Business coaching focuses on three main areas, namely, financial, organizational, and human resources aspects. Business Coaching for CV Jati Indah Abadi is qualitative case study research. The business analysis used is Business Model Canvas, PESTEL, Porter's Five Forces, Segmenting Targeting and Positioning, Marketing Mix, VRIO, SWOT and TOWS, and Pareto Analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, CV Jati Indah Abadi has not implemented a financial planning system, budgeting, recording, monitoring, and evaluation of financial performance. Therefore, the author provides training on cash management, the use of project budgets, and transaction recording applications for preparing financial reports. The vision and values are also determined, so that it is expected to motivate and increase employee loyalty, including encouraging SME owners to further optimize their business potential by continuing to make improvements and implement best practices. Keywords: Business Coaching; Competitive Improvement; Human Resources; Organization; SMEs

Abstract

Since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 infection in Indonesia in March 2020, the pandemic has hit the economy hard, especially the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to analyze the extent of the impact of the pandemic on MSMEs and the effectiveness of the government policy measures. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire administered to 2,535 MSMEs in 17 provinces during July–September 2020. The results show that MSMEs already suffered revenue slump within the second month of the pandemic and encountered both financial and non-financial hardships. The government supports and assistance was perceived as very helpful to mitigate the impact of the pandemic by the recipients. However, the programs’ distribution was hampered by either mis-targeting or lack of socialization regarding applicationrequirements, procedures and registration location. The policy, academic and managerial implications of the findings are provided.
