Abstract

Renewable energy now seems to be the most sought after energy source. One of the renewable energy sources that is easy to obtain, endless, and environmentally friendly is solar energy. There are two kinds of technologies that have applying to exploit the potential of solar energy, namely thermal solar energy technology and photovoltaic solar energy technology. In this research, a generator will making that utilizes solar energy as a heat source to produce steam using reflected light from a mirror (reflector). The working principle of this tool is to use solar heat by concentrating sunlight to one point, the heat collected can be used to generate electricity in a conventional way. This technology is known as Concentrating Solar Power (CSP). The heat from this mirror reflected light will heat the water in the boiler to produce steam. The material used in this research is stainless steel because the thermal conductivity value is greater than other types of metal so that it is easier to conduct heat.

Abstract

Maintenance is an activity or action to maintain and care for equipment to ensure the availability and reliability of the equipment for the stability of the production process. Reach Stacker is one of the lifting equipment that has a very important role in helping port loading and unloading services. This study aims to determine the types of damage to the equipment and also to increase the readiness of technicians or management in handling maintenance on equipment using preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and corrective maintenance methods. From the results of the analysis, the damage that often occurs to the reach stacker tool is divided into several main component groups, namely the engine group, electrical group, hydraulic group, drive group, and chassis group. each component to increase the readiness of technicians in dealing with failure or damage problems that occur in the equipment and the port party must quickly take steps or actions in the main maintenance process in replacing spare parts due to failures in equipment components.

Abstract

Hand washing is a simple activity, but it has enormous effects and benefits for health. Especially in this time of the covid-19 pandemic, we all have to wash our hands. Hand washing tools, both manual and automatic, have their respective roles. For manual hand washing tools, we still use our hands to turn the water faucet. So in the process of making this hand washing tool, we aims to design a hand washing machine with an automatic system and implement the design in the form of a product. From the results of the design of the automatic hand washing tool that we made, namely using a 4x4 hollow iron with a tool height of 145 cm and a width of 55 cm, while this automatic hand washing control system we use 4 components consisting of a proximity sensor, relay, IC 7805, electric water pump and produce a hand washing tool that can help make washing hands easier without having to turn the water faucet, because this tool has used a proximity sensor / motion sensor. Then the results of this design still need to be done further research and development, for example, such as adding a hand dryer in order to optimize performance.

Abstract

Technological advances in measuring instruments provide convenience in carrying out the work of measuring an object. But on the other hand, these advances require skilled operators so that they can be applied to the object being measured. The purpose of this service activity is to increase the knowledge of teachers and students in recognizing various measuring tools to increase their competence in the use of measuring tools. The method of implementing the activity uses an approach to theoretical exposure, direct demonstration and practice, discussions, and questions and answers that are directly related to measuring instruments including solar power meters, viscometers, micrometers, thermometers, tachometers, torques, welding gauges, dial indicators, and anemometers. The results achieved from the implementation of this community service activity, teachers and students gain knowledge of various types of measuring instruments and how to apply them to various objects being measured.

Abstract

One of the classic problems that are difficult to overcome in urban life is environmental problems where waste is not handled properly, especially inorganic waste. Currently, the largest contributor to waste after organic waste is inorganic waste in the form of canned waste. The use of aluminum as a packaging material is due to its being lightweight, easy to shape, and does not endanger human health. On that basis, its use as packaging is widespread which also triggers the forerunner of the waste problem in people's lives. Aluminum waste will be a source of income for the community if it is handled properly by involving waste processing technology in the form of recycling technology through metal smelting or casting. This service program aims to introduce metal casting applications made from canned waste into frying pan products for the community in Lepo-Lepo, Kendari City. The activity stages include: socializing the introduction of aluminum-based cans of packaging waste and the practice of smelting aluminum cans in a crucible furnace and pouring molten metal into molds. The implementation of this service activity can raise awareness of participants to be able to process waste, especially aluminum can packaging into frying pan products, and create new jobs to improve the welfare of the local community.

Abstract

Currently, the gantry crane still uses steel material. The steel is protected using a coating paint to minimize the impact of corrosion. However, this method is inefficient given the high rate of corrosion due to its coastal location. This also causes maintenance issues because repainting must be done regularly and periodically. Additionally, not all equipment has annual maintenance funding. The aim of this study is to design and analyze the stress of a 9-ton capacity gantry crane using Aluminium 6061 material. Finite element analysis was conducted using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024 software. The results of this study indicate that the gantry crane frame is safe to use because the von Mises stress analysis result of 2,778 MPa is still below the yield strength of Aluminium 6061 material, which is 275 MPa. A safety factor of 2.07 shows that the gantry crane design is very safe to withstand loads up to 9 tons.

Abstract

Advances in technology made the use of fossil fuels a major issue, while the sources of fossil fuels continue to decrease due to their perishable nature. Biomass, including waste such as sawdust and oil palm empty fruit bunches, has potential as an alternative energy source that can be converted into briquettes. This study aims to determine the characteristics of biomass sawdust and oil palm empty fruit bunches as briquette materials as an alternative to fossil fuels. This research was conducted experimentally to determine the optimal formulation of a mixture of Wood Powder (SK) and Empty Palm Bunches (TKKS) in making briquettes. Composition variations tested include 100% SK, 100% TKKS, 50% SK: 50% TKKS, 70% SK: 30% TKKS, 30% SK: 70% TKKS. The results showed that the ultimate and proximate characteristics of 100%SK and 100%TKKS have good fixed carbon content. Based on the heating efficiency test, the best value is with the composition of 100% SK with 10% starch adhesive getting a combustion efficiency value of 7.65%. The best porosity index was obtained in the formulation of 70% SK: 30%TKKS with a value of 1.52%, while the best durability index is in briquettes with a composition of 100%TKKS with 10% starch adhesive getting a value of 0.12%. The briquette properties of sawdust and empty palm kernel can be the initial data in the development and use of biomass briquettes or co-firing fuel for industrial furnace because it has good mechanical and physical properties. Thermal efficiency test in the field should use biomass stoves to obtain accurate biomass performance data.

Abstract

The focus of this research was maintenance and repair of robotic welding technology using preventive maintenance with modular design. This concept organizes machine parts to reduce manufacturing costs, repair procedures, and reduce product defects, as well as minimize component damage such as undercut, overlap, and porosity. If component damage occurs, maintenance/replacement of components is not only carried out on the damaged component but also is connected to other components. The method used in this research was observation carried out by direct observation at the location of the information source at the company Showa Kinzoku.co.,ltd, as well as literature study in order to obtain complementary data and solve problems. This shows that there was a significant decrease in damage after research was carried out before maintenance was carried out in November {13.0}, December {12.3}, January {12.5}. After maintenance was carried out in February {4.12}, March {3.33}, April {3.76} the difference was very significant. In this research the author also looked at seasonal factors, in the winter in December product damage reached {12.5} damage and in the summer in April it decreased to {3.76} damage. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the implementation of preventive maintenance with modular design is very effective, the January presentation data showed 77% damage, compared to April's only 23% damage. Maintenance significantly reduces average product defects by more than 50%, demonstrating high effectiveness in this period.

Abstract

The utilization of natural fiber-based composite materials is increasingly developing as an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic materials. Coconut sheath fiber is an agricultural waste with potential as reinforcement in polymer matrices due to its strength and flexibility. This study focuses on the tensile strength of coconut sheath fiber composites in antisymmetric laminate configurations, which have not been widely explored. Such configurations are expected to enhance mechanical performance, particularly in lightweight structural applications. The study aims to analyze tensile characteristics and understand the influence of laminate orientation on the mechanical properties of the composite. The problem addressed is how tensile strength behaves in coconut sheath fiber antisymmetric laminates with fiber orientations of [-45°/+45°/-45°/+45°] and [-30°/+30°/-30°/+30°]. A quantitative research method was used, consisting of the following stages: (1) fiber preparation, (2) fiber soaking, (3) mold fabrication, (4) composite fabrication, (5) specimen preparation, and (6) tensile testing. The results showed that the highest average tensile stress was obtained in the +45°/-45°/+45°/-45° orientation, with a value of 10.578 MPa, a tensile strain of 2.452%, and an elastic modulus of 0.004 GPa. The positive contribution of this study lies in revealing the potential of coconut sheath waste as a reinforcing material for composites with promising mechanical performance under specific laminate configurations. However, the study is limited in the range of fiber orientations explored and does not include evaluations under other mechanical loads such as bending and impact. Further studies are recommended to investigate a wider range of fiber orientations and to conduct multiaxial mechanical testing to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the composite behavior.
