Abstract

Nilai IC50 sebesar 5,26 ppm. Semakin kecil nilai IC50 maka semakin kuat aktivitas antioksidannya.Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa kombinasi ekstrak Averrhoa bilimbi L. dan Phaleria macrocarpa memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kedua ekstrak tunggal sehingga kombinasi tersebut berpotensi menjadi alternatif pengobatan DMT2.KATA KUNCI: Averrhoa bilimbi L.; Phaleria macrocarpa; DPPH; IC50 ABSTRACT Background: Various degenerative diseases such as DM are closely related to oxidative stress and lipid abnormalities due to uncontrolled free radicals. One of the free radical scavengers, namely antioxidants, Averrhoa bilimbi L. and Phaleria macrocarpa are plants that have many useful properties, especially their antioxidant compounds. Objectives: This study aims to examine the antioxidant activity of the combination of extracts of Averrhoa bilimbi L. and Phaleria macrocarpa based on the IC50 value so that it can be seen its potential as an alternative treatment for DMT2.Methods: The extract was processed using the maceration method with 96% ethanol then remaceration twice, then combined with a concentration of 50% Averrhoa bilimbi L and 50% Phaleria macrocarpa. Testing of antioxidant activity was carried out using the DPPH method based on the calculation of the IC50 value. Results: The results showed that ascorbic acid had an IC50 value of 10.65 ppm, Averrhoa bilimbi L. had an IC50 value of 8.29 ppm, Phaleria macrocarpa had an IC50 value of 6.43 ppm, and a combination of Averrhoa bilimbi L. and Phaleria macrocarpa extracts have an IC50 value of 5.26 ppm. The smaller the IC50 value, the stronger the antioxidant activity. Conclusion: Based on these results, it can be concluded that the combination of extracts of Averrhoa bilimbi L. and Phaleria macrocarpa has higher antioxidant activity than the two single extracts so the combination has the potential to be an alternative treatment for DMT2.KEYWORDS: Averrhoa bilimbi L.; Phaleria macrocarpa; DPPH; IC50

Abstract

DM is a metabolic disease characterized by blood glucose levels that closely related to oxidative stress and lipid abnormalities. There are side effects of the drugs, such as nausea, dizziness, and so other alternatives are needed with natural ingredients and lower side effects. One of them are Phaleria macrocarpa and Averrhoa bilimbi. The compounds can reduce GDP,MDA and improve lipid profile in DMT2. The aim is to determine Phaleria macrocarpa and Averrhoa bilimbi as alternative treatments. The method is a systematic review of 34 journals. Based on the analysis, Phaleria macrocarpa and Averrhoa bilimbi were shown to reduce GDP,MDA and improve lipid profile. The decrease GDP from saponin can reduce glucose absorption in the intestine and inhibit the glucose transporter GLUT-1, while the decrease MDA is due to flavonoids which play a role in suppressing free radicals production, inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators, and increasing endogenous antioxidants. Improvement of lipid profile from niacin can reduce blood cholesterol levels by inhibiting VLDL secretion mechanism. It was concluded that Phaleria macrocarpa and Averrhoa bilimbi could be used as alternative drugs for the treatment of DMT2 by lowering GDP, MDA and improving lipid profile.

Abstract

The covid pandemic that has occurred for more than two years is still not over. Even in January 2022, with the new variant, Omicron, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased dramatically. According to statistics, on January 25 there were 3,559,000,464 new cases of COVID-19 and an average of 7 days as many as 3,397,073 cases. Therefore, it is important to take preventive measures to avoid the COVID-19 virus. One of them by eating foods high in antioxidants. Some fruits that are high in antioxidants are Averrhoa bilimbi L and Phaleria macrocarpa. Flavonoids are one of the types of antioxidants found in Averrhoa bilimbi L and Phaleria macrocarpa which function to inhibit the formation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) by inhibiting enzymes in the formation of ROS and increasing the regulation and protection of antioxidants to prevent various negative impacts such as degenerative diseases and decreased immunity so that it can prevent exposure to the COVID-19 virus. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of flavonoids in the combination of extracts of Averrhoa bilimbi L and Phaleria macrocarpa. The method used is the UV-VIS spectrophotometry method. The result of this research is that the flavonoid content of Averrhoa bilimbi L is 2.32 mg/g, the extract of Phaleria macrocarpa is 4.83 mg/g and the combination of the two is 4.77 mg/g. From these results, it can be said that the extract of Phaleria macrocarpa has the highest flavonoid content of 4.83 mg/g.
