Abstract

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five years of age as a result of chronic malnutrition so that the child is too short for his age. The prevalence rate of stunting in Indonesia is still above 20%, meaning that it has not reached the target. Factors that influence stunting include birth length and birth weight. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the factors that influence the incidence of stunting in children aged 0-59 months in the working area of the Balung Public Health Center in 2021. This research is descriptive in nature which was conducted Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five years of age as a result of chronic malnutrition so that the child is too short for his age. This research is descriptive in nature, which was conducted in the working area of Puskesmas Balung, Jember Regency in April 2021. The population is children under five with age stunting. 0-59 months recorded in the EPPGBM in February 2021. Sampling in this study was carried out by total sampling, namely as many as 639 stunting toddlers. Of the 639 stunted children under five, 347 were male and the majority occurred at the age of 12-23 months, namely 150 under five. From 639 toddlers, it describes 516 toddlers with normal body length and 123 toddlers with short birth lengths. Meanwhile, the birth weight of 639 children under five shows that 422 children under five were born with normal birth weight. From the data above, it can be concluded that the majority of children under five with stunting in the working area ofPuskesmas Balung were born with normal body length and weight. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out further research on the relationship of several risk factors using statistical tests. In addition, it is also necessary to look for other risk factors that can cause stunting in children.

Abstract

Background: In 2010, there were 33 million global stroke cases, with hemorrhagic stroke responsible for one-third of cases and over half of deaths. Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is more common in low-income countries, the elderly, men, and African-Asian populations. Despite surgery aiming to reduce mortality, postoperative death rates remain high (22-62%), especially among elderly patients with hypertension. Objective: To determine the in-hospital mortality rate of patients following decompressive trepanation and evacuation of intracerebral hemorrhage at Saiful Anwar Hospital, East Java, from March 2023 to March 2024. Method: This is a retrospective descriptive study at Saiful Anwar Hospital, East Java, to identify the in-hospital mortality rate of patients who underwent decompressive trepanation and evacuation of intracerebral hemorrhage (March 2023-March 2024). Samples were taken from medical records of CVA ICH post-TDE ICH patients and analyzed using frequency, mean, median, and standard deviation. Results: The study at Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital (March 2023-March 2024) involved 74 CVA ICH patients who underwent decompressive trepanation. Of these, 54% were male, 46% female, and the most common age group was 46-60 years (44.6%). Most patients were from Malang (75.67%), with 11 from Kedungkandang and 13 from Malang Timur. The mortality rate was 75.6%. Conclusion: A high mortality rate was observed in post-TDE ICH patients at Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital, with respiratory failure complications being the main factor. Further research is needed to understand the risk factors for mortality. From this study, Artificial Intelligence can be developed to predict post-operative mortality.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability worldwide, with women exhibiting distinct clinical characteristics and generally poorer outcomes than men. Female-specific risk factors, older age at onset, and greater stroke severity contribute to unfavorable prognoses. As a tertiary referral center in East Java, Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital treats a large number of female stroke patients, yet comprehensive clinical data remain limited. Objective: To describe the clinical profile of female stroke patients, focusing on stroke severity based on NIHSS scores, mortality, and pneumonia incidence. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study included 202 female stroke patients admitted between January and December 2024. Data were extracted from electronic medical records. Results: Most patients were aged 45–64 years (46.5%) or ≥65 years (44.6%), and the majority were housewives (80.2%). Thrombotic stroke predominated (55.4%) over intracerebral hemorrhage (44.6%). Hypertension was the most prevalent vascular risk factor (96.0%), followed by diabetes mellitus (42.1%), dyslipidemia (35.1%) and heart disease (32.2%). Stroke severity was predominantly moderate to very severe, with 91.1% of patients presenting with NIHSS scores ≥5. Pneumonia was the most frequent complication (51.5%). Overall mortality reached 45.0%. Conclusion: Female stroke patients demonstrated a high burden of vascular risk factors, severe neurological impairment, frequent complications, and mortality far exceeding global averages. These findings highlight the urgent need for strengthened prevention strategies, improved acute stroke care, early complication management, and targeted interventions for this vulnerable population.
