Abstract

Introduction: A thyroid cancer worker after undergoing ablation procedure requires specific recommendation when return to work. This study aims to determine a framework of the fitness to work (FTW) status from the occupational health nursing viewpoint. The implication is to help answer the question whether the worker is fit to work as a cancer survivor. Methods: This study used a Case Study method with descriptive design. The sample was a therapist associate whose scope of work was office-based. The method applied the Test Blueprint of case management assessment by the American Board of Occupational Health Nursing (ABOHN) standard combined with the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) after the ablation procedure as the instrument. We analyzed the case with The Fit to Work (FTW) Model of Hybrid Model. Results: FTW  assessment showed vital signs within normal limits. Immunological examination found abnormalities. The left and right thyroid lobes were not visualized and there was no mass in the surgical bed. The client was advised for specialist follow up after 6 months. After the ablation procedure, the employee had a verbal communication disorder. The Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) recorded point 5 hoarseness with decreased tone quantity was about 90%. Based on the medical report and his specialist’s advice, 6 months after ablation the employee’s medical condition showed improvement. Conclusion: With the At-Will Model of Hybrid as the framework to determine the fitness status, we recommended to declare him fit with restrictions and advised for regular fitness status update.

Abstract

Introduction: The increased amount of Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) medical waste will harm the environment and humans around it, and so far there is no system. Many studies revealed more about how to handle medical waste. This study aims to identify hazardous and non-hazardous medical waste and to introduce an environmentally friendly PD disposal system. Methods: This research was a case study method with a descriptive design. The population and sample of PD waste were 40 patients in PD in South Sulawesi (n: 19) and Manado, North Sulawesi (n: 21), Indonesia. The instrument used was a document review with the PICO model as a filter. The instrument was used to filter reliable research documents obtained from Google Scholar for the last 5 years (2017-2022), with keywords: peritoneal dialysis, medical waste disposal, CAPD nurses. Nightingale’s Environment Theory was also used to support the analysis. Results: Collected 177 grams of PD medical waste or an average of 620 grams a day with a risk load of 6 out of 7 items. In a month, 18.6 kgs of PD medical waste will be collected. The waste is mixed (hazardous and non-hazardous) and potentially dangerous. Conclusion: This study recommended a disposal system that is not yet clear and there is no certainty about who is in charge. The combustion results can be used for ecogreen plant fertilizers where in its application it can involve public health nursing because of their close role in family and community health.

Abstract

The emergence of new regulations regarding the mandatory ownership of new Peritoneal Dialysis Units (PD Units) in regional hospitals in Indonesia creates new problems for PD patients after undergoing therapy. They need treatment by CAPD professionals who are still on the move. This study aims to discuss how far the community nurses are involved in the management of patient care in the PD unit so that an overview of their duties and functions is obtained in handling PD patients in the CAPD unit under management nursing. This document review used PRISMA analysis. Data were taken from Google Engine, with keywords: Peritoneal Dialysis, community nursing, and public health. Select documents from reputable journals for the last five years. The documents that were filtered (n=14) all met the search criteria for documents according to keywords. There were only two documents (n = 2) that raise the issue of community nurses and their role specifically in PD units in the community. The most discussed role was training (n=5). The challenges were bureaucracy or government regulations. This study recommended that community nurses could be empowered to care for PD patients after getting short CAPD training.

Abstract

In practice the Occupational Health Nurses (OHN) in Indonesia do not have sufficient career objectives regardless of the availability of 30.381 medium-large industries. These opportunities and challenges prove that from the OHN employment viewpoint, the prospects for the OHN professionals are very promising. In terms of education where OH nursing specialization in Indonesia is still very limited, the career of the OHN corporate nursing profession needs to be analyzed and explored. This review aims to enhance the understanding of OH nurses' careers based on theoretical perspectives in an increasingly dynamic educational environment, provides comprehensive understanding of the work for OHN nurses and offers future research direction. The method used was Assessment Model of Meleis to review selected documents by implementing three types of career path, i.e. Career Framework, Change Model and Nursing Career Framework. There were 71 documents were reviewed include of the nursing education system by the Ministry of Health, the National Education System, Ministry of Higher Education (Ristekdikti), Development and Empowerment of Healthcare Human Resources (BPPSDM), AAOHN, OHN Career Guide Canada and several journals of the last five years, from 2016 to 2020. Meleis’ Model provides a deeper understanding of the OHN career. Meanwhile, reviewing career framework theories also contribute to the career path of OH Nurses, both in practice, research, education and administration in various dimensions of nursing care in the industrial settings.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 outbreak, many ex-migrant nurses who had resigned and were living in Indonesia were unable to return to work. The objective of this study is to develop strategies for empowering ex-migrant nurses in the sustainable healthcare sector following the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The Reflective Cycle Gibbs (RCB) model was employed during the research, which comprised six stages that began with a document review and PRISMA analysis. The PRISMA Analysis utilized Google search engines to filter documents from Google Scholar, Research Gate, and other sources. The RCB model examined 10 eligible journals and discovered records of nurses who returned to their home country due to inadequate pay, career development, workforce protection policy, and empowerment facilities. We concluded 4 problems encountered by returnee nurses i.e. lack of protection policy, poor wages, less career development, and lack of empowerment facilities.
