Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of the declining religious character of students in various elementary educational institutions, including SD Plus Al-Ishlah Bondowoso, as indicated by a decrease in discipline in worship, politeness, and moral conduct. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that the gender-based classroom segregation policy was implemented by structurally separating male and female students in classroom learning as well as religious activities. The positive implications of this policy included improved learning focus, a more conducive classroom environment, the development of a sense of modesty (haya'), increased discipline in worship, and the enhancement of students' social morality. However, the study also identified several challenges, including the lack of synergy between the school and parents, limited facilities, and the potential reinforcement of gender stereotypes if the policy is not implemented wisely. The study concludes that gender-based classroom segregation makes a significant contribution to the development of students' religious character when supported by teachers' exemplary conduct, the habituation of religious practices, and a conducive school environment.
