Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning learning model on critical thinking skills and creativity in biology subjects at SMA Negeri 4 Palu. This type of research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental type. The population in this study was 400 people and the sample in this study was 70 people. Sampling was done by purposive sampling, and the research sample was 2 classes consisting of class XC and XJ. The data collection technique in this study was using a test in the form of a Post-test and observation sheet. Data analysis used prerequisite tests, namely, normality tests and homogeneity tests and hypothesis testing using independent sample-t tests. The results of the study indicate that (1) students' critical thinking skills had a significant average score in class XJ as the experimental class, namely 85.66, and class XD as the control class, namely 77.14. (2) The results of observing students' creativity in the experimental class yielded a score of 84.66, with 80-100% falling into the “very creative” category, while the control class scored 76.14, with 61-80% falling into the “creative” category. (3) The Project-Based Learning (PBL) model has a significant impact on critical thinking skills and creativity in biology lessons at SMA Negeri 4 Palu. This is evidenced by the t-test results, which show a significance value of 0.00 < 0.05.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of emotional quotient and learning motivation on the biology learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students in the MIPA program at SMA Negeri 2 Palu. The research employs an ex post facto design that is correlational in nature, utilizing a quantitative approach. The population of the study consists of 288 students, with a sample size of 72 students selected through Cluster Random Sampling techniques. The research instruments include a student learning outcomes test, and questionnaires measuring emotional quotient  and learning motivation. The results of the questionnaire tests were found to be valid and reliable. Data analysis of the questionnaire results was conducted using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 27. The findings indicate that both variables (emotional quotient  and learning motivation) have a positive and significant effect on the biology learning outcomes of the eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Palu, both partially and simultaneously. This is evidenced by the t-test results for emotional quotient , which yielded a value of 17.514 > t-table 1.997, and for learning motivation, which yielded a value of 5.721 > t-table 1.997. Additionally, the F-test (simultaneous) produced an F-calculated value of 543.62 > F-table 3.15. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of emotional quetion and learning motivation on the learning outcomes of the eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Palu.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the obstacles faced by biology teachers at the senior high school (SMA) level in South Palu District in implementing the Independent Curriculum. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with biology teachers from two schools in South Palu District as subjects. The research instruments were interview sheets and questionnaires. The questionnaires were analyzed using an average score calculation to determine the category of obstacles, while the interview data were analyzed qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that teacher obstacles ranged from low to very low. Among the three aspects, implementation had a relatively greater level of obstacles than planning and assessment, but remained in the low category, while planning and assessment were both in the very low category. Interviews supported these findings, namely that teachers still relied on training modules and experienced difficulties in adapting assessments to student characteristics, as well as facing limitations in facilities and technology. In general, it can be concluded that the obstacles faced by Biology teachers in implementing the Independent Curriculum in South Palu District are in the low and very low categories, but mentoring, competency strengthening, and infrastructure support are still needed so that curriculum implementation can run optimally.
