Abstract

Paraphrasing is one of the major skill for academic writing and some have considered that the teaching of paraphrasing can help students avoid copying from source texts. The objective of this research was to find out the problems faced in paraphrasing the text and how to deal with the problems. Quantitative design was used in this study to answer the research questions. There were 10 participants as the subject in this study. The data were collected from paraphrasing text, questionnaire, and interview. The finding of the data analysis shows that lack of vocabulary and lack of grammar knowledge are the problems faced by most of the participants in paraphrasing the text. From the text, it was found that just 17% of students were able to change the word or synonym from the original text and 17 % students were able to change grammar or structure from original text. From the questionnaires, the means score shows that the students have most problems in grammar and lack of vocabulary in paraphrasing the text in which the highest means score fall into the question 17 and 19 with score 3. From the interview, it was also found that most students mentioned lack of vocabulary and grammar as the problems in paraphrasing the text. Furthermore, practicing more, reading more the original text, reading the dictionary and learning more from the internet are the solutions to deal with the problems in paraphrasing the text.

Abstract

The assessment is carried out in order to open up learning. The instruments used must of course carry out a good development stage process. The purpose of this study is to ensure reliable and fair test items in each educational unit. This research uses a quantitative approach which focuses on the equating method School Examination test equipment especially for English language subjects at the high school level in Muna district which has 2 schools. Data collection was carried out through documentation of student responses on the School Examination for English subjects. Student responses came from 2 question packages from 2 middle schools in Muna District. In addition, there were a total of 96 students involved in the school exam with each SMA 1 having 56 students and SMA 2 having 40 students. There were only 2 high schools of the same level in the Tongkuno area, especially Muna Regency, and took the question packages from the same source. Data were analyzed using an equating technique based on Item Response Theory with the mean-mean method. Item parameter estimation and equalization were used with the help of R Studio and Microsoft Excel programs. Therefore, R Studio is used to estimate the validity and reliability of the two question packages while Microsoft Excel is used to equalize the 2 different scores. The equating results in an equalization constant that ensures the two test packages now have scores that can be compared more fairly and accurately. Thus, these findings show the importance of the equating process in improving the integrity of educational evaluation in Indonesia especially to ensuring equivalence in two different packages is crucial to produce equal and fair score results.

Abstract

The industrial world needs professionals who are able to align the needs of the market. Its intense market competition not only demands the ability to work, but also the ability to create innovative products. Therefore, higher education must prepare excellent graduates with those ability. One of the efforts is to improve the learning model by implementing Project Tasks on Students’ Regional Potential. This study belongs to pre-experimental research with a one-group pretest-posttest design, subjected to 30 students of D3 Mechanical Engineering study program. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the students who were taught by Project Tasks on Students’ Regional Potential got significant improvement from their pre-test to post-test scores. Consequently, it can be interpreted as there was an effect of the Project Tasks treatment given to research subjects. Therefore, this model can be referred as an effective model to adapt, implemented on learning for vocational higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze trends and empirical findings on primary school policies and practices in Indonesia and internationally. The study uses a qualitative design through a Systematic Literature Review approach. A total of 884 articles were identified using Publish or Perish software, then selected using the PRISMA protocol, resulting in 34 articles that met the criteria for in-depth analysis. The data were analyzed using a thematic analysis framework to identify key themes and research gaps. The results showed that 60% of the empirical studies reviewed highlighted policy aspects, while the other 40% focused on practices in primary schools. The analysis stated that the effectiveness of education policy is highly dependent on school leadership, management transparency, and the availability of adequate infrastructure. Innovative practices such as character education, literacy development, and transdisciplinary learning have been shown to contribute positively to improving the quality of elementary schools. This study provides recommendations in the form of 6 months of continuous training at the beginning of leadership for school principals and a collaboration forum for public and private elementary school teachers as a regular discussion forum for good practices with incentives in the form of accreditation points and 21st-century learning innovation grant funds for schools that actively participate.
