Abstract

Background: Brain relaxation and prevention from cerebral edema are essential in craniectomy. Osmotherapy with 20% mannitol are generally used to withdraw fluid from the brain parenchyma, however may cause hemodynamic fluctuation, due to increase diuresis. On the other hand 0.5 M hypertonic sodium lactate (HSL) appeared as an alternative of osmotherapy. This study  aimed to observe the effect of hypertonic sodium lactate (HSL) on brain relaxation, blood glucose level and hemodynamic variables in craniectomy due to moderate brain injury. Methods: A randomized controlled study of 42 cases with moderate brain injury, aged 18 - 65 years, ASA 1 - 3, between September-November 2012, was carried out. The patients were divided into group M (n = 21) that received 2.5 mL/kg 20% mannitol and group HSL that received 2.5 mL/kg 0.5M HSL. Mean arterial pressures (MAP), central venous pressures (CVP) and urine output were measured after induction, and at 15, 30, 45, 60 min after infusion. Brain relaxation was assessed at a four-point scale after opening the duramater. Blood glucose levels were measured before induction and at 60 min after the infusion. Appropriate statistical tests were used for comparison. Unpaired t-test was used to compare hemodynamic and blood glucose level, and chi-square was used to compare brain relaxation. Results: MAP at 60 minute was significantly higher in HSL group than M group (81.66 ± 7.85 vs 74.33 ± 6.18 mmHg; p = 0.002). There was no difference in brain relaxation (p = 0.988). A significant increase in blood glucose level was observed in group HSL (17.95 ± 11.46 mg/dL; p = 0.001).Conclusion: Half-molar HSL was as effective as 20% mannitol in producing brain relaxation, with better hemodynamic stability and gave significant increase in blood glucose level. Keywords: brain relaxation, hemodynamic, hypertonic sodium lactate, mannitol, traumatic brain injury

The population was the 2016/2017 first year students of SMKN 4 Kendari, totally 413 students. The sample is 28 students from one class of textile design and production program (X KTC). The experimental group was taught by using Edmodo as suplementary class. The test was divided into two groups, pre-test and post- test. The instrument used in this study was a writing test. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test. The hyphotesis of this research was there was a significant effect of using Edmodo on students’ writing achievement at SMKN 4 Kendari (H1). The result of paired sample t-test shown that the asymp sig. is 0.000. It meant that the asymp sig. was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). So, the H1 is unrejected. It could be concluded that using Edmodo has significant effect on students’ writing achievement at eleventh grade of Textile program (X KTC) in SMKN 4 Kendari.

Abstract

Little investigation has been conducted in the field of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) regarding writing experiences through blogs. Drawing upon Vygotsky’s constructivist theory in language learning, this study was set out to investigate the effect utilizing web blog as a teaching media on students’ writing competence. Thirty-one fourth semester students of English Literature study program in the Faculty of Cultural Studies, Halu Oleo University who took Creative Writing subject in the academic year 2015/2016 participated in the research. Data of this research were obtained from students’ results of pre- and post-test, as well as pre-post in-depth interview which was conducted to find out students’ perception towards the use of web blogs in their learning. The research analyzed both quantitative and qualitative data, the former to investigate the extent to which the use of web blog has been effective, and the latter to gauge students’ perceptions of the teaching media under investigation. Two research questions were posed: (1) Is there any significant effect of utilizing web blog on the students’ competence in writing narrative essay? (2) How do students’ perceptions of using blogs influence their experiences in their English writing?. The researcher run a paired sample t-test with 2 tailed t-test using the SPSS 16 to test proposed hypothesis. To reveal students’ perception, descriptive data were transformed into words. Analysis of the data obtained resulted in the followings: pre-test score (M=76.38; SD = 8.77), post-test score (M=86.29; SD=7.78), Df= 30, t-table = 1,697 and t-test = 10.686. Result of paired sample t-test showed that t-test ≥ t-table at sig α ≤ 0.05 or  H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. These results indicated a significant different on students’ writing competence before and after treatment. It can therefore be concluded that utilizing web blog as media for teaching writing is effective not only in improving student’s writing competence, but also in creating positive learning environment

Abstract

Tax revenue in Indonesia until 2014 contributed approximately 78% of total state revenue. This shows that the tax is important both for the country as a source of income, as well as for the company as a taxpayer. For companies, the tax to be paid is a burden for the company which will reduce net income. Based on earlier research, the management company will tend to act aggressive tax in financial reporting. Tax aggressiveness influenced also by the pattern of ownership of the company in which the role of corporate governance are expected to influence the direction of the management decision-making. The samples are all companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) except finance, insurance and banks during the period 2010-2014. The method used is multiple regression method. The results showed that the audit committee and institutional ownership has a significant influence on the aggressiveness of the taxes while the aggressiveness of financial reporting and the ownership of the family did not have a significant effect on the aggressiveness of the tax.

The use of videos in education makes it possible to overcome practical real-world constraints and explore far greater possibilities provided by digital spaces, especially for the video uploaded in online platform such as blog. This study examines whether online video blog as media have a significant effect on students’ achievement of passive voice. It used pre-experimental (one group pre-test and post-test) design. The samples of this study were 10 students at 4J Operation. A pre-test and post-test were conducted by using multiple choice questions as the instruments. Data analysis was through paired-sample t-test. Results showed that there was an increase in mean score of pre-test (49,1) and post-test (63,5). Data from Paired Sample t-test showed that Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 which was smaller than .05 which means that there was significance difference in mean score after employing treatment.
