Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve mathematics learning outcomes on the topic of Three-Dimensional Shapes through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with Quizizz media in Class VIII C of SMPN 7 Mataram. This research was conducted using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method adapted from the Kemmis and McTaggart model and carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four main stages: planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The results showed that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model combined with Quizizz media significantly improved the learning outcomes of Class VIII C students. Improvements were evident across various aspects, including average scores, highest and lowest scores, and the number of students achieving mastery. The average score increased from 71.85 in the pre-cycle to 78.92 in Cycle I, and further to 83.8 in Cycle II. Meanwhile, the percentage of students achieving mastery rose significantly from 50% in the pre-cycle to 80% in Cycle I, and reached 87.5% in Cycle II. These findings indicate that integrating PBL with Quizizz media is not only effective in enhancing students’ understanding of the material but also relevant and beneficial for modern educational contexts. This approach not only supports teachers in achieving cognitive learning objectives but also fosters the development of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth how project-based planning in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning systems can help enhance students’ critical thinking skills at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Malnu Pusat Menes. The background of this research arises from the issue of students’ low ability to think critically in understanding and applying religious values in their daily lives. This condition is caused by the conventional and teacher-centered nature of PAI learning, which limits students’ active participation in the learning process. To address this challenge, the study focuses on the importance of innovative and contextual learning planning so that students can develop reflective and critical thinking toward the values they study. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed through stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that project-based PAI learning planning is developed by considering students’ needs and characteristics, setting learning objectives relevant to real-life contexts, and designing meaningful and applicable projects. The implementation of this planning has proven effective in fostering students’ critical thinking skills through collaborative activities, problem-solving, and reflection on Islamic values embedded in the projects. Thus, project-based PAI learning planning contributes positively to improving the quality of the learning process and developing students’ critical thinking skills within the madrasah environment.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a cognitive assessment instrument for beginning reading skills of first-grade elementary school students that is valid and reliable. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method through the stages of needs analysis, instrument design, instrument development, expert validation, and instrument testing. The subjects of this study were 25 first-grade students of SDN Sukamanah in the 2025/2026 academic year. The developed instrument consisted of 10 multiple-choice questions designed based on beginning reading indicators and Bloom’s Taxonomy cognitive levels, namely C1 (remembering), C2 (understanding), and C3 (applying). Data collection techniques were carried out through expert validation and student testing. Empirical validity testing used the Pearson Product Moment correlation, while reliability testing used the KR-20 formula. The expert validation results showed a percentage of 90% categorized as very valid. The empirical validity test results indicated that items number 4, 6, 8, and 10 were valid because the calculated r-value was higher than the r-table value. The reliability test obtained a coefficient of 0.76 categorized as high. Based on the results, the cognitive assessment instrument for beginning reading skills was declared valid and reliable, making it feasible to be used as an evaluation tool for first-grade elementary school students.
