Komparasi Kebutuhan Informasi Penelitian Mahasiswa UIN Profesor K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri (Saizu) Purwokerto dan UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) Pekalongan Antasari, Indah Wijaya; Junaeti, Junaeti

Abstract

Abstract:: Students from UIN Saizu Purwokerto and UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan have a final assignment to prepare a thesis as a graduation requirement. The objectives of the research are to determine the level of research information needs of students at UIN Saizu Purwokerto, the level of information needs of UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan students, and a comparative study between the two. The research method used is quantitative, with a nonparametric data comparison test, namely the Mann-Whitney test. The results show that the level of research information needs of UIN Saizu students is 4.52 and UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan is 4.61 on a scale of 5. The Mann-Whitney Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) test value of 0.380 indicates that there is no difference in the research information needs of students between UIN Saizu Purwokerto and UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan; both are equally high. This indicates that, although they come from two different universities, the students' information needs related to their thesis completion are relatively the same. This research can be a policy recommendation for reference services at the UIN Saizu Purwokerto Library and UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan. Keywords: thesis students; information need; library services; comparative study; reference services Abstrak: Mahasiswa UIN Saizu Purwokerto dan UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan mempunyai tugas akhir menyusun skripsi sebagai syarat kelulusan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat kebutuhan informasi penelitian mahasiswa di UIN Saizu Purwokerto, tingkat kebutuhan informasi mahasiswa UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan, dan studi komparasi antara keduanya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif, dengan uji komparasi data nonparametrik yaitu uji Mann-Whitney. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kebutuhan informasi penelitian mahasiswa UIN Saizu Purwokerto adalah 4,52 dan UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan 4,61 dalam skala 5. Uji beda Mann-Whitney Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,380 menunjukkan bahwa kebutuhan informasi penelitian mahasiswa antara UIN Saizu dan UIN Gus Dur Pekalongan tidak ada perbedaan, yaitu sama tinggi. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa, walaupun berasal dari dua universitas yang berbeda, kebutuhan informasi mahasiswa terkait penyelesaian skripsi mereka relatif sama. Abstract

The challenges for libraries today are enormous. As a growing organization, libraries must keep up with the times and the increasingly diverse information technology to survive and not be eroded by the times. Various efforts need to be made to maintain the library's existence by consistently providing the best service and involving the aspirations of the community served. This research aims to help improve the existence of UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Library as supporting the tri dharma of higher education. The approach in this research is qualitative with the type of field research. The data collection method was conducted through focus group discussion (FGD). Participants in this FGD are students, lecturers, and academic staff representatives. The results of this study found that several things need to be considered to improve the library's existence, including various aspects, namely policies, services, collections, facilities, literacy activities, cleanliness, and human resources. The contribution of this research is used as a guideline to improve library governance and provide many conveniences to library users so that they feel the library's existence.
