Abstract

Palliative care is an important approach for nurses to improve the quality of life of patients holistically and mitigate suffering among the patients in critical condition and near to death. This article provides an Islamic perspective about nurses’ roles in palliative care, which can be applied worldwide, especially in Muslim-majority countries. Understanding Islamic beliefs will help nurses provide professional and culturally sensitive nursing care. In its principle, Islam always respects the process of life until death comes. So, the application of Islamic values in palliative care will make the patients accept their ill condition completely, keep being close to Allah SWT (God), and die peacefully. The concepts of illness, death, early action on the dead, and palliative care application in nursing are explained in this article to open up new ideas rather than provide definitive answers. We hope that this perspective will highlight healthcare policymakers the need to integrate Islamic values in nursing practice.

Abstract

Abstract

The use of cadar becomes a controversial discussion in Indonesia. However, the majority of scholars consider the cadar is not an obligation in religion. Bearing in mind, there are differences in the limits of women's genitalia or awrat. It shows in the Quranic interpretation of literature in Indonesia that cadar's views lie in the different scholars in interpreting and determining the limits of women's genitalia. This paper uses a comparative method to compare the interpretations of Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy and Quraish Shihab in understanding verses about the cadar and the limits of women's Awrat (genitalia) in both interpretations. This research method is qualitative and library research. Hasbi Asy-Syiddieqy, in his interpretation of An-Nur, explains that women are obliged to cover their jewelry, while Quraish Shihab considers the cadar is not an obligation in religion because, for him, the face is not part of the awrat (genitalia) that must be covered. The difference can be seen from their educational and scientific backgrounds. Hasbi Asy-Syiddieqy has a background in Islamic law (Fiqh), so the style of interpretation in the book of An-Nur is more nuanced in fiqh. However, Quraish Shihab highlights the nuances of interpretation in the book of Al-Misbah, which tends to imitate the model or style of interpretation of Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Rida. This cadar is part of the need for tahsiniyat (Luxuries). The need for tahsiniyat is a need which if not fulfilled, does not threaten the existence of one of the maqashid ash-shariah (objectives of sharia) and does not cause difficulties.

Abstract

Based on the ranking of 20 Indonesian Green Universities by UI Green Metric 2022, green campuses are dominated by public campuses that do not have a strong foundation in Islamic values. In fact, not a single Muhammadiyah and 'Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA) was included in the top 10 ranking release. Why has PTMA, which has developed Green Fiqh, not been able to present itself as a green campus? This research aims to identify Green Fiqh in Islamic Religion learning at PTMA. This qualitative research uses a thematic approach with a narrative-descriptive-explanative strategy. The research was conducted at three PTMAs in Yogyakarta. The findings obtained are: first, the Green Fiqh study materials in learning Islamic religion courses at PTMA are not optimal. Even though Muhammadiyah has created Green Fiqh products such as Environmental Fiqh, Disaster Fiqh, Water Fiqh and Agrarian Fiqh. Second, learning about Islamic religion at the three PTMAs where the emphasis is still limited to the basics of Islamic religious teachings, such as Aqidah, morals and worship. The Aqidah theme raised also does not optimally touch the role of rububiyah monotheism in preserving the environment. The moral theme also does not touch much on actual contemporary problems, including the problem of global climate change. Third, the Al-Ma'un ethos which is the foundation and spirit of Muhamamdiyah taught in the three meanings of PTMA has not yet developed. Al-Ma'un's main mission is only interpreted as fighting religious liars in a narrow sense. Al-Ma'un has not been developed towards "new" religious liars, namely those who destroy nature and the environment.  Keywords: Environmental Sustainability, Green Fiqh, Islamic Value
