Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh dari lagu kreasi sebagai sebuah teknik mengajar terhadap kompetensi bahasa Inggris siswa kelas 4 SD Saraswati Tabanan tahun akademik 2013/2014. Post-test only control group design digunakan sebagai desain penelitian. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas 4. Melalui teknik Cluster Random Sampling, dua kelas diambil sebagai sampel di penelitian ini, yakni kelas 4B and 4C. Kelas 4B dipilih sebagai kelompok kontrol, sedangkan kelas 4C sebagai kelompok eksperimen. Secara keseluruhan, terdapat 75 siswa terpilih sebagai wakil dari populasi. Siswa di kelompok eksperimen diajarkan dengan menggunakan lagu kreasi, sedangkan kelompok kontrol diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional. Di akhir pengajaran, kedua kelompok diberikan post-test. Hasil post-test lalu dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, ditemukan siswa yang diajar menggunakan lagu kreasi memperoleh hasil yang lebih baik ketimbang mereka yang diajar menggunakan teknik konvensional. Ini dibuktikan dari nilai rerata kelompok eksperiment adalah 79,05, sedangkan kelompok kontrol adalah 69,5. Lebih lanjut, hasil dari independen sampel T-test menunjukan t observed (tobs) adalah 5.000. Hasil ini lebih tinggi dari nilai t critical value (tcv) adalah 1.99 (α= 0.05). Ini membuktikan bahwa ada pengaruh signifikan pada kompetensi bahasa inggris antara kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Kata Kunci : lagu kreasi, kompetensi bahasa inggris This study aimed at investigating the effect of Scripted Songs as a teaching technique on English competence of the fourth grade students of primary school in SD Saraswati Tabanan in academic year 2013/2014. Posttest only control group design was used as a research design. The population was all the fourth grade students. Through Cluster Random Sampling technique, two classes were taken as the samples in this study, namely class 4B and 4C. Class 4B was assigned as the control group while class 4C as the experimental group. In total, seventy five students were taken as representative of the population. The students in experimental group were taught by using Scripted Songs, while the students in control group were taught by using Conventional Technique. At the end of treatment, both groups were given a posttest. The result of the posttest was then analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the students who were taught by using Scripted Songs obtained better result than those who were taught by using Conventional Technique. It was proven by the mean score of the experimental group was 79.05, while the control group was 69.5. Moreover, the result of the independent sample t-test showed that the value of t observed (tobs) was 5.000. It was higher than the value of t critical value (tcv) was 1.99 (α= 0.05). Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) mengembangkan materi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk Pramuwisata di Bali, dan 2) mendiskusikan bagaimana materi ini dikembangkan, dan 3) mendiskusikan bagaimana kualitas dari materi yang dikembangkan. Langkah- langkah dari penelitian ini diadaptasikan dari Borg dan Gall (1983), yang terdiri dari melakukan analisa kebutuhan, menyusun kerangka materi, melakukan uji pertimbangan para ahli, mengevaluasi dan merevisi draf pertama, uji coba di lapangan, mengevaluasi dan merevisi draf kedua, dan menulis draf akhir. Ada tiga jenis instrumen yang digunakan: kuesioner, interview dan dokumen studi. Hasil dari penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa materi yang diperlukan oleh Pramuwisata di Bali berkaitan dengan delapan topik: 1) Salam dan Perkenalan, 2) Memberikan Saran kepada Tamu, 3) Berbicara tentang Rute Perjalanan, 4) Memberikan Petunjuk Arah dengan Benar, 5) Mendeskripsikan Tempat-tempat di Bali, 6) Mengekspresikan Perbandingan, 7) Menceritakan Sejarah Pura-pura , 8) Mendeskripsikan karakter atau patung di monumen. Masing-masing topik terdiri dari beberapa elemen umum: Front Page, Lead-in, Snapshot, Dialogue, Language Focus, Role Play, Word Power, Pronunciation Drill, Listening Activity, Writing Activity, dan Reading Activity. Hasil kuantitatif data analisis menunjukan nilai rata-rata dari pertimbangan para ahli adalah 4,81 dan nilai rata-rata dari uji coba di lapangan adalah 4,52. Berdasarkan kategori yang menggunakan ideal mean (Mi) dan ideal standard deviation (Sdi), 50 pernyataan tentang materi yang dikembangkan tergolong kategori “Sangat Baik Sekali”. Sehingga ini bisa disimpulkan bahwa materi yang dikembangkan untuk Pramuwisata di Bali sudah pantas dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka.Kata Kunci : Pengembangan Materi; Bahasa Inggris untuk Tujuan Spesifik; Pramuwisata. This study aimed at 1) developing English instructional materials for tour guides in Bali, 2) discussing how these instructional materials are developed, and 3) discussing how the quality of the developed materials is. The steps of this study were adapted from Borg and Gall (1983) which consisted of conducting need analysis, writing the course grid, designing the first draft, expert judgments, implementing the second draft, evaluating and revising the second draft, writing the final draft of the materials. There were three kinds of instruments applied: questionnaires, interview, and document study. The results of this study show the materials needed by the tour guides in Bali were related to eight topics: 1) greeting and introduction, 2) giving suggestions to the guests, 3) telling the itinerary, 4) giving well direction, 5) describing places in Bali, 6) expressing comparison, 7) telling the history of some temples, and 8) describing characters/relief in the monument. Each topic contained some general elements: front page, lead-in, snapshot, dialogue, language focus, role play, word power, pronunciation drill, listening activity, writing activity, and reading activity. The quantitative data analysis result the mean score of expert judgments is 4.81 and the mean score of try-out is 4.52. Based on the categorization using an ideal mean (Mi) and ideal standard deviation (Sdi), the 50 statements about the materials belong to “Excellent” category. This study concludes that the designed instructional materials for tour guides in Bali have been considered suitable and appropriate with their needs. keyword : Material Development; English for specific purpose; tour guides
