Abstract

Kekuasaan antarpribadi adalah kemampuan seseorang untuk memengaruhi pikiran dan tindakan orang lain yang secara tingkatan kekuasaan berada di bawahnya. Dalam lingkungan pondok pesantren, santri baru menempuh masa orientasi di bawah bimbingan pengasuh. Interaksi antara pengasuh dengan santri baru adalah interaksi yang dominan dilakukan sebagai sebuah metode pengasuhan dalam pondok pesantren yang dikoordinasi oleh Keluarga Santri Pomosda (KSP) SMA POMOSDA. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana kekuasaan antarpribadi yang dibangun dalam proses pendampingan yang dilakukan oleh pengasuh kepada santri baru, dalam hal ini adalah kewenangan pengasuh untuk memberikan arahan dan bimbingan kepada santri baru melalui kekuasaan hubungan, personal, dan pesan. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan wawancara sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Peneliti mewawancarai 5 orang informan kelas 12 yang pernah menjadi pengasuh. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya tiga faktor utama yang digunakan pengasuh dalam membangun kekuasaan antarpribadi, yaitu kedekatan, nasihat, serta apresiasi dan hukuman.

Abstract

The learning and teaching processes have shifted from offline to online during Covid-19 pandemic. Online platforms are used to support learning and teaching process from early childhood to higher education institution. Another process that is important in the teaching and learning process in universities is the process of thesis supervision which before the pandemic used to be held face-to-face. Lecturers and students of the Department of Communication Science, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta use WhatsApp as a text-based CMC platform in conducting thesis supervision. Text-based CMC is lack of nonverbal and visual experiences compared to face-to-face communication (Walther, 1996). This research aim is to understand how CMC perspectives are developed between thesis supervisors and their students in thesis supervision process using WhatsApp. A descriptive qualitative research method was used in this study involving 3 thesis supervisors and 3 students as informants. Semi-structured interview was used to collect data. The results showed that the communication perspective in the thesis supervision process through WhatsApp are: (1) impersonal, indicated by the lack of nonverbal cues, delayed feedback, lack of conversational language, and focus distracted. (2) Interpersonal, indicated by the time of interaction, motivation, and the use of emoticons, and (3) hyperpersonal, indicated by online presentation management.

Abstract

The development of Internet and communication technology has been increasing from time to time. Humans around the globe are connected to digital communication device. Technology has been growing and changing the way people communicate; from text-based computer-mediated communication to video-mediated communication. The study is conducted to determine whether the online users in VMC perform selective self-presentation under conditions when nonverbal cues are present and the interlocutor is not anonymous. This study is a qualitative research with semi-structured interview as its method. Findings in this study showed that participants perform selective self-presentation in VMC. By wearing veil for females or combing hair for males, tiding up the room and table, choosing certain place, also hiding something from the web camera scope are the ways they present themselves to obtain good impression and avoid bad impression from interlocutorsThe findings also discovered that participants perform selective self-presentation to ordinary friends, colleagues, or acquaintances with the same way and the same reason why they perform it when nonverbal cues are present. However, participants do not perform selective self-presentation to family and close friends.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication in family relationships is an important thing for everyone, including deaf parents. Communication between parents and children will affect the formation of children's character and nature. Therefore, a communication strategy is needed in providing assistance to children according to the needs and conditions of the child, especially for children entering their teens. This study was conducted with the aim of finding out how the interpersonal communication strategies of parents with deafness with their children who have normal hearing are in mentoring during puberty and the challenges they face. The theory used in this research is the theory of CMM (Coordinated Management of Meaning). This research is a qualitative descriptive study that collects data through semi-structured in-depth interviews with three deaf parents. The results of this study indicate that each informant has a strategy in providing assistance during puberty. Two informants use a catalyst strategy, and one informant uses a hanging sword strategy.

Abstract

Di era yang serba digital ini, pembelajar bahasa asing membutuhkan akses yang cepat dan bisa menjangkau berbagai materi untuk menguasai suatu bahasa secara fleksibel. Salah satu aplikasi yang memfasilitasi pembelajar bahasa asing melalui gawai adalah HelloTalk. HelloTalk adalah aplikasi belajar bahasa yang memberikan akses pada penggunanya untuk berkomunikasi langsung dengan penutur asli dan ahli bahasa dari berbagai negara. Dengan fitur aplikasi yang dikemas seperti SNS (Social Networking Service) : chatting, voice call, video call, dll, pengguna dapat berlatih bahasa yang ingin dipelajari dengan partner belajar di HelloTalk. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk memahami bagaimana perspektif CMC dalam komunikasi antarpengguna aplikasi HelloTalk. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif menggunakan data yang diambil dari wawancara semi-terstuktur dengan 8 informan yang merupakan 4 pasangan partner belajar di HelloTalk. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perspektif CMC yang terjadi dalam komunikasi antarpengguna di HelloTalk adalah : (1) impersonal, diidentifikasi dari komunikasi asinkron, feedback yang tertunda dan terpecahnya fokus. (2) interpersonal, diidentifikasi dari lamanya durasi waktu interaksi, adanya kesempatan untuk berinteraksi di masa depan, motivasi untuk berteman, dan penggunaan emotikon. (3) hyperpersonal, diidentifikasi dari manajemen presentasi diri di HelloTalk.Kata kunci: perspektif komunikasi bermediasi komputer, aplikasi pembelajaran bahasa, impersonal, interpersonal, hyperpersonalIn this digital era, foreign language learners need fast access to various materials to master a language flexibly. One application that facilitates foreign language learners through devices is HelloTalk. HelloTalk is a language learning app that gives access to communicate directly with native speakers and linguists from different countries. With packaged application features such as SNS (Social Networking Service): chat, voice call, and video call, among others, users can practice the language they want to learn with learning partners on HelloTalk. This research aims to understand the CMC's perspective on communication between users of the HelloTalk application. The method used in this study was qualitative descriptive, using data taken from semi-structured interviews with eight informants who were four pairs of learning partners on HelloTalk. The results showed that the CMC perspective that develops in communication between users in HelloTalk is: (1) impersonal, identified from asynchronous communication, delayed feedback, and split focus. (2) interpersonal, identified by the length of interaction time, the opportunity to interact in the future, the motivation to make friends, and the use of emoticons. (3) hyperpersonal, identified from self-presentation management on HelloTalk.Keywords: perspectives on computer-mediated communication, language learning application, impersonal, interpersonal, hyperpersonal
