Abstract

The increasing demand for energy and the depletion of oil reserves are forcing humans to seek alternative energy sources. Therefore, the need for alternative electrical energy sources arises, namely, by utilizing solar panels. The importance of understanding how solar panels work and their maintenance becomes a determining factor in ensuring the optimal performance of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Lack of knowledge and awareness about maintenance can result in decreased efficiency and lifespan of solar panels. Users of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems are also expected to understand its maintenance procedures. Thus, the implementation of this community service activity aims to educate the public and enable them to maintain Solar Cells as Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. This activity is carried out by providing direct training on PV system maintenance, both theoretically and practically. The impact of this community service activity is that the community can understand and maintain Solar Cells as Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, as evidenced by the evaluation results where the understanding of the training participants falls into the category of very knowledgeable, which is 80.88%.

Abstract

Technological developments in diesel engines require improvements to the fuel injection system to meet the criteria for economical, high-power and efficient combustion and meet environmental regulatory standards. One method that has a lot of interest is changing the characteristics of the fuel, with the aim of producing optimal combustion. Spray characteristics have a big role in determining the quality of combustion in diesel engines. A good spray can improve the quality of fuel atomization and the homogeneity of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber so that it can produce good engine performance and low emissions. This study aims to determine the effect of a diesel-biodiesel (Calophyllum inophyllum)-gasoline blendandfuel heating on the spray characteristics. The research was conducted with variations in composition (B0, B100, B30, B30G5 and B30G10) and fuel heating (40, 60, 80, and 100 °C). Fuel injected atapressure of 17 MPa in to a pressure chamber of 3 bar. The spray formed was recorded with a high-speed camera of 480 fps (resolution 224x168 pixel). In B100 biodiesel, the highest viscosity and density cause high spray tip penetration, small spray angle, and high spray velocity. The addition of diesel oil, gasoline, and heating fuel reduces the viscosity and density so that the spray tip penetration decreases, the spray angle increases and the velocity of spray decreases.

Abstract

Avgas fuel consumption on Cessna trainer aircraft is very high. However, there has been little research regarding spray impacts in Cessna aircraft engines. The phenomenon of avgas spray colliding with the cylinder wall may occur during fuel injection, resulting in a changed spray radius and height, which will affect the mixing of fuel and air. In several aspects, this affects engine performance and exhaust emissions on Cessna aircraft. This research aims to determine and study the phenomenon of spray impact on avgas-fueled aircraft engines. The fuel spray in the study occurred in the combustion chamber using pressure from a fuel hand pump whose pressure was supplied from a compressor with a pressure adjusted to the original pressure on the aircraft, namely 2 Bar (30 Psi). The experiments in this research used a high-speed camera system to study the phenomenon of avgas spray on walls to get better spray distribution. The results of this research were processed using the CFD application. The result of this research is that the greater the pressure, the more concentrated the resulting jet will be on the jet wall so that the atomization of the fuel jet will be dispersed. When the burst occurs, a change of 3.80e+00 occurs compared to other burst pressures.

Abstract

The performance of modern racing motorcycles is greatly influenced by their aerodynamics. Slipstreaming occurs during a race when a rider closely follows another, especially on a straight track. The effect can reduce aerodynamic drag and increase the overall speed of the rider behind. This study investigates the aerodynamic effects of slipstreaming on a racing motorcycle using computational fluid dynamics. This study also considers its effect on both drag force and downforce, which affects motorcycle stability. A 3D CAD model of a racing motorcycle and a rider in a crouching position was used as the object of research. CFD simulations were carried out using the RANS Steady State solver with the k-ω-SST turbulence model. The simulations evaluated the effect of varying distances between motorcycles on slipstream performance, as well as varying motorcycle speeds. The results show the effect on drag force and downforce for the trailing motorcycle. This is due to the shielding effect of the motorcycle in front, which creates a low-pressure zone behind it. Additionally, the turbulence behind the racing motorcycle also affects its downforce. Optimizing the distance between motorcycles in the slipstream allows riders to improve overtaking performance. It also reduces adverse effects on motorcycle stability caused by the slipstream's influence on downforce. Furthermore, it can be used to develop aerodynamic modifications to racing motorcycles that can utilize the slipstream more effectively.

Abstract

Batteries are devices for storing electrical energy into chemical energy. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, a battery is an electrochemical cell that converts chemical energy directly into electrical energy. People who use batteries have various backgrounds. especially education, ranging from uneducated people to highly educated people. So that the general public needs to know how to use and care for batteries safely. So that this service activity is so that the community understands how to use and care for safe batteries and how to properly dispose of battery waste. The impact of this service activity is that the community can understand how to use and care for safe batteries and how to properly dispose of battery waste so as not to cause environmental damage.
