Abstract

This study aimed to know the implementation of translation strategies used by the translator and equivalence achievement. Descriptive qualitative research approach is used as research design. The results of the study show that 10 translation strategies used by the translator in rendering 724 culture-specific items data. Translation by repetition or pure borrowing is mostly used the translator as translation strategy containing ecology, concepts of belief and religion, and anthroponyms. The translator intended to source language-oriented in the implementation of translation strategies in translating culture-specific items in The Spiderwick Chronicles because the culture-specific items in TL did not have equal meaning in TL culture. Dealing with equivalence of translation, the translator tends to avoid re-create the culture-specific items in SL. In order to achieve balance, the translator should reduce bringing the original words into target language and avoid the unfamiliar cultural terminologies.

Abstract

The phenomenon of radicalism and intolerance has spread in the world of education, including scouting or scouting activities as mandatory extracurricular activities in schools. This happens when scouts and scout leaders promote or practice intolerant attitudes or actions towards individuals or groups based on differences in religion, ethnicity, race or other backgrounds. This is a threat to the sustainability of students' nationalism. This research aims to examine the construction of Islamic moderation in scouting activities as an effort to prevent deradicalization in educational institutions. The research method used is a qualitative case study type approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and document analysis. The research results show that the construction of Islamic moderation in scouting activities can be a strong basis for preventing deradicalization. Through an inclusive and dialogical approach, students are empowered to understand moderate Islamic values, avoiding extreme understandings. The existence of social, humanitarian and cooperative activities in scouting forms an attitude of tolerance and mutual respect between members, reducing the potential for radicalization.

Abstract

This study investigates translation equivalence in the Indonesian version of The Spiderwick Chronicles (Book 1: The Field Guide) by Tony DiTerlizzi, focusing on 69 culture-specific items (CSIs). Applying Nida and Taber’s framework of formal and dynamic equivalence, the research aims to determine the predominant strategy used in rendering culturally bound expressions. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the CSIs are categorized into five cultural domains: ecology, material culture, social culture, organizations and customs, and anthroponyms. The analysis reveals a strong preference for formal equivalence, with the highest occurrences in the categories of organizations (36.2%) and material culture (34.8%). Borrowing—both pure and naturalized—emerges as the dominant translation technique, particularly for items related to anthroponyms, religious concepts, and ecological terms. This reliance on source-language structures suggests a translator orientation that prioritizes fidelity over cultural adaptation. While this strategy preserves source-text integrity, the study recommends a more adaptive approach to improve clarity and cultural accessibility for target readers. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of balancing semantic accuracy and cultural resonance in the translation of culture-specific items.

Abstract

The goal of the study is to know the implementation of translation techniques are used by the translator. This research design uses descriptive qualitative research approach. Meanwhile, the findings of this research show that 9 translation techniques were applied in the book 1 “The Field Guide” in rendering 69 words which are classified to CSI’s. Translator borrowed the source language terms (pure borrowing and naturalized borrowing) majority applied by the translator which is used to translate terms in anthroponyms, belief and religion concepts, ecology. The translator expected to SL oriented in the execution of translation techniques in rendering culture-specific items in The Field Guide book. Dealing with back translation, translator intends to prevent the culture-specific items in source language. To achieve balance, the translator should decrease in taking the originality of source language words into target language words and prevent the use of strange cultural terminologies.

Abstract

The digital disruption era has posed significant challenges to the sustainability of media companies in Indonesia, particularly through increasing risks of financial distress caused by shifting consumer behavior and fluctuating revenue streams. This study aims to analyze and compare the accuracy of three financial distress prediction models—Modified Altman Z Score, Zmijewski X Score, and Grover G Score—in detecting potential bankruptcy among media companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2021–2023 period. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining quantitative analysis using descriptive and comparative techniques on financial statement data with qualitative evaluation of each model’s formula structure, empirical validation, and practical applicability. The results reveal that both the Altman and Grover models achieved the highest accuracy rate of 57.14%, while the Zmijewski model showed a lower accuracy of 42.86% with the highest Type I Error rate. Based on qualitative assessment, the Modified Altman Z Score is considered the most appropriate model for predicting financial distress in Indonesia’s media industry, given its strong theoretical foundation, broad empirical validation, and ease of application. These findings provide practical implications for investors, analysts, and corporate management in anticipating financial risks at an early stage and serve as a basis for developing advanced prediction models using artificial intelligence to enhance accuracy and adaptability in the future.
