Abstract

Saat ini, perkembangan minyak atsiri di dunia semakin pesat dikarenakan manfaatnya yang sangat beragam, di antaranya sebagai bahan parfum, kosmetik, obat, dan aromaterapi. Kapulaga (Elletaria cardamomum) merupakan salah satu hasil pertanian Kabupaten Sukabumi yang masih belum mengalami pengolahan lebih lanjut sehingga daya jual atau nilai ekonomisnya masih rendah. Tanaman asli Indonesia ini masih belum banyak dikembangkan secara komersial oleh masyarakat dan menurut Dewan Atsiri Indonesia, berpotensi dikembangkan di masa mendatang. Di sisi lain, para petani kapulaga di Sukabumi termasuk mitra pengabdian kami baru hanya dapat menghasilkan buah kapulaga (bahan baku/mentah) saja dan belum mampu memproduksi minyak atsiri dari kapulaga. Jumlah produksi dari sekitar 700 pohon kapulaga menghasilkan 2 – 3 kuintal buah dengan harga jual berkisar Rp6.000,00 per kg, sedangkan minyak atsiri kapulaga (cardamon oil) dipatok seharga US 175 atau sekitar Rp 2.300.000,00 pada tahun 2017. Oleh karena itu, pengolahan lebih lanjut bahan mentah untuk menghasilkan minyak atsiri yang harganya jauh lebih mahal perlu dilakukan. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah penyuluhan dan pendampingan mitra dalam menghasilkan cardomon oil yang dilanjutkan dengan pengujian kualitas minyak yang dihasilkan melalui uji Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI). Potensi pengembangan minyak atsiri kapulaga ini begitu menjanjikan, mengingat manfaat dari cardamon oil sangat beragam di antaranya sebagai antioksidan, antikarminatif, antitusif, analgetik mengingat kualitas yang dihasilkan telah sesuai dengan SNI. Adanya produk minyak kapulaga ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan nilai ekonomis buah kapulaga yang akan berdampak pada peningkatan pendapatan para petani serta harapannya akan menjadi salah satu komoditas ekspor Kabupaten Sukabumi pada masa mendatang.Nowadays, the development of essential oils in the world is increasing rapidly due to their various benefits. It includes as an ingredient in perfumes, cosmetics, medicines, and aromatherapy. Cardamom (Elletaria cardamomum) is one of the agricultural products of Sukabumi which has not undergone further processing. Thus, its economic value is still low. This native plant from Indonesia is still not widely developed commercially. According to the Indonesian Atsiri Council, cardamom has the potential to be developed in the future. On the other hand, cardamom farmers in Sukabumi, including our service partners, can only produce cardamom fruit (raw material) and have not been able to produce cardamom essential oil. The total production of 700 cardamom trees produces 2 – 3 quintals of fruit with a selling price of around Rp. 6,000.00 per kg, while cardamon oil is at US 175 or around Rp. 2,300,000.00 in 2017. Therefore, further processing of raw materials to produce essential oils which are much more expensive needs to be carried out. The method used in this service activity is counselling and mentoring partners in producing cardamom oil followed by testing the quality of the oil produced through the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) test. The potential for developing cardamom essential oil is very promising, considering that the benefits of cardamom oil are very diverse, including as an antioxidant, anti-carminative, antitussive, and analgesic considering that the quality produced is by SNI. The existence of cardamom oil products is expected to increase the economic value of cardamom fruit which will have an impact on increasing the income of farmers and it is hoped that it will become one of the export commodities of Sukabumi in the future.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this program is to make food product packaging better and more informative by adding English labelling, thus it could support the increase in sales of MSMEs products, as well as support the tourism development in  Sukabumi City. Methodology: The method was conducted through developing labelling, training on the text translation, and mentoring. Results: The result of this mentoring activity is the achievement of the level of comprehension and skills of MSMEs actors in terms of English packaging labelling which are proven by the printing of Mochi product packaging using the English translation version for ten types of products. Conclusions: The results of the assistance using labelling development, training, and mentoring methods show that the labelling mentoring participants have understood and can translate product packaging into English, so currently the product packaging has two languages printed as many as 1000 copies and ready to be marketed. Limitations: The limitation is only to the Mochi products due to the limited time and personnel. Contribution: It is expected that the result of this program will be beneficial to all the products produced by the MSMEs in Selabatu Twig Cikole Branch Sukabumi City.
