Abstract

Increased activity in the Badung river basin has an impact on water quality, including river estuaries and the sea, which will affect the environmental ecosystem. One of the water and sediment pollutants is heavy metals. Heavy metal pollution can be overcome with phytoremediation. This research aims to analyze the ability of the Rhizophora apiculata and Sonneratia alba mangroves to accumulate the heavy metals Pb and Cu.  Phytoremediation naturally occurs at river estuaries, namely in mangrove plants. Metal absorption in mangroves occurs in the roots which are then carried to the leaves. The research was conducted at the mouth of the Badung River, Denpasar, Bali. The research results show that the Pb metal content in water has exceeded the quality standards for marine tourism and marine biota based on PPRI No. 22 of 2021, namely an average of 0.005 mg/l. Metal absorption occurs in two types of mangroves, namely Rhizophora apiculata and Sonneratia alba. The highest metal absorption in mangroves is the Sonneratia alba species. Mangroves translocate metals from roots to leaves. From the research results, mangroves are classified as low accumulator plans.

Abstract

Research on water quality and strategies for handling seaweed washing waste provides information about management strategies aimed at finding out the quality of water in seaweed cultivation areas as a result of inappropriate handling of seaweed washing waste as well as providing information about management strategies as a recommendation and consideration for local governments. to adopt policies to overcome pollution in the East Sumba seaweed cultivation area. The measurement results show.  The measurement results show that there is contamination of the water quality meters, namely pH and salinity, namely 11 and 35 respectively, while the other parameters are still below the quality standards when compared with the Republic of Indonesia government regulation number 22 of 2021, concerning the quality of marine waters for marine biota. The high pH and salinity parameters of sea water are thought to be due to the seaweed washing process carried out by seaweed farmers in the Woba expanse, where the washing process is carried out directly at the cultivation location so that there is a possibility of seaweed washing waste entering the cultivation area. Researchers suggest carrying out initial treatment to overcome water pollution.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of cashew farmers' income to household income. The background of this study is based on the strategic role of the agricultural sector, particularly cashew farming, in supporting the economy of farming families and as a source of funding for children's education. In the context of human resource development in rural areas, households' ability to finance education is greatly influenced by the stability and size of income obtained from farming activities. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. The research sample consists of 100 cashew farmer households selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS software. The results of the study indicate that income from cashew farming significantly contributes to household income, with a regression coefficient of 0.723 and an R-squared value of 0.522. Meanwhile, the contribution to children's education expenditure is also significant, with a regression coefficient of 0.648 and an R-squared value of 0.471. In-depth interviews revealed that the majority of farmers prioritize children's education when income from farming increases. Thus, cashew farming not only serves as an economic support but also plays a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of children's education in rural areas
