Abstract

The dollyo chagi kick is one of the most frequently used techniques in taekwondo competitions because it requires speed and good coordination. However, information on the biomechanical variables that contribute most to kicking performance in university-level taekwondo athletes is still limited. This study aims to analyze the relationship and contribution of biomechanical variables to dollyo chagi kick speed. The study used a quantitative approach with biomechanical analysis of 15 taekwondo athletes with regional-level competition experience. Data were obtained through video recording and analyzed using two-dimensional motion analysis software. The variables analyzed included hip joint angle, knee joint angle, ankle angle, knee angular velocity, and kicking speed. The results showed that knee angular velocity had the strongest relationship with kicking speed (r = 0.74; p < 0.05) and was the variable that provided the largest contribution in the regression model. In addition, hip joint angle showed a significant relationship to kicking performance. These findings indicate that knee extension velocity and pelvic rotation are important biomechanical components in improving dollyo chagi performance and can be the basis for developing an evidence-based taekwondo training program.
