Abstract

Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate the degradation of dry matter (DM) and neutral detergentfiber (NDF) of urea untreated (URS) and urea treated rice straw (TRS) incubated in the rumen of sheepfed different diet. Three fistulated sheep were fed on urea-treated rice straw basal diet with threesupplemental treatment diets which consisted of control diet (T0) mulberry and molasses; mulberry, rice bran and urea (T1); and rice bran and urea (T2). Either URS or TRS was placed in nylon bags andincubated in the rumen at 0, 8, 16, 24, 48 and 72 hours. Parameters recorded were degradation of DMand NDF, rumen pH, rumen ammonia. The results showed that DM degradability of URS of the diet T1was significantly lower than other diets. Similarly the URS degradability of rumen-insoluble fraction(b) of DM and NDF of T1 diet was significantly lower than those of T0 and T2 diet. DM and NDFdegradability of URS was not affected by diets. The rumen ammonia concentration of T1 and T2 wassignificantly higher than those T0, but still higher than critical ammonia concentration required forrumen microbial synthesis. These results suggest that different supplementations have no significanteffect on DM and NDF degradability of TRS.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is an essential 21st-century skill that students must master. Scientific literacy is the proficiency to engage with scientific ideas and knowledge that shapes the student’s ability to interpret and evaluate data within scientific inquiry and make decisions regarding natural change, human activities, and technology. In addition to scientific literacy, thinking skills are crucial in the current era. Thinking skills help students solve social, scientific, and practical problems. Therefore, the current research objective is to test the effectiveness of the local-based knowledge module as a learning media to enhance student scientific literacy and thinking skills in Kupang Regency. 78 elementary school students in Kupang, Indonesia, were involved. They were selected based on the random sampling method and divided into experimental and control groups. The data were collected before using the module, during the use of the module, and after using the module. The instrument used to collect the data was tested for validity and reliability with expert validation. The collected data was then analyzed with SPSS 16 package software. Descriptive analysis and MANOVA were performed. The results indicate that the students’ average scores in scientific literacy and thinking skills are enhanced after they use the module. It is emphasized by the significance of the MANOVA analysis, which indicates the difference in score between the group of students who use the local-based knowledge module and those who do not. Based on the results, the module effectively enhances students’ scientific literacy and thinking skills. Therefore, this module can be used by teachers at the learning level to improve their scientific literacy and thinking skills.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the effect and optimal dose on hatchability, hatching time and prevalence. The study was carried out in two stages, namely the manufacture of jatropha leaf simplicia dried using an oven at 70 oC for 5 minutes. Puree using a blender. Weighed according to the treatment, namely A 3 g/L, B 5 g/L, C 7 g/L and D 0 g/L. The next stage is spawning the broodstock, and selecting 2,400 eggs that have been successfully fertilized, each treatment with 200 eggs. Each treatment was soaked for 4 minutes. The eggs were transferred to a hatching container with a volume of 5 L of water. The experiment was conducted using an experimental method (CRD), the factor tested was the effectiveness of castor leaf extract with different doses on hatching time, hatchability and prevalence. The results of observations of hatching times have a different number of hatchings. Treatment 3g/L 5 grains, treatment 5g/L 3 grains, without soaking 1 grain with hatching time 30 hours after fertilization. The most eggs hatched at 42-54 hours in the 3g/L treatment 479 eggs and the lowest in the treatment without soaking 258 eggs. For treatment 5g/L 419 grains and treatment 7g/L 380 grains. The effectiveness of giving effect, prevalence and presentation of hatching eggs in the 3g/L treatment has a success rate of 5%, for hatching time of 30-52 hours, prevalence is 20.17% and percentage of hatching eggs is 79.83%.
