Abstract

The Professional Learning Community (KPP) is no stranger to Malaysia if the Malaysian Ministry of Education itself has taken the initiative to promote and implement it in the teacher learning culture in schools. However, it still remains with western characteristics and it is up to any group of teachers to realize it either in its original form or make some adjustments based on the local context in Malaysia. Research on the KPP has found that there are many similarities with the concept of usrah. However, there are slight differences between the two. Researchers see these similarities and differences as an advantage when these two concepts are combined. A structured interview has been carried out on thirteen experts in the fields of usrah and KPP. The results of this meeting have been described in five dimensions and their characteristics based on the characteristics of the module by Tengku Sarina Aini Fatimah Sahida (2018) which were adjusted, namely the dimensions of concept, content, leadership, assessment and initiative. A total of 70 traits have been identified and analyzed using the Fuzzy Delphi technique. In conclusion, 65 characteristics have been approved and agreed by a group of experts in combining KPP and usrah techniques among teachers in schools.

Abstract

As organisations, schools require innovation to persist in a dynamic educational landscape. Innovation stems from the innovative behaviour of schools' members, including teachers, who play a crucial role in the innovation process. Previous studies have identified teacher gender as an influencing factor on innovative behaviour; however, several others have found no correlation between gender and innovative behaviour. Consequently, this study aimed to elucidate the phenomena occurring within the study population. Verifying this, a quantitative study was conducted on 160 high school teachers, comprising 80 male and 80 female teachers in Indonesia. The statistical analysis results indicate that teachers' perceptions of innovative behaviour are high. Furthermore, the findings reveal an insignificant difference in the perceptions of innovative behaviour between both groups. This outcome corroborates that gender is not a determining factor in how teachers perceive innovation in education.

Abstract

Education is considered one of the impact sectors, which is a part of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), where humanity and technology are aligned to empower new possibilities. Academic exploration of Augmented Reality (AR) technology and skills of IR 4.0 in schools, especially in rural areas, have been scarce. Therefore, this paper examines the influence of AR technology via mobile application on teachers and students via community-based learning approach. One rural primary school was selected for this community-based research project: Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Gaya in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It was selected as the school’s drop-out rates have remained high and it has low student retention levels. Students here are unprepared for becoming more autonomous learners with better responsibility for organizing and planning their learning time. There were 22 teachers and 95 primary students (75 female and 20 male), aged from nine to twelve, third to sixth grades involved in this project. Their changes in attitude, practices, and skills were evaluated before and after the AR intervention. A majority showed an increase in positive preferences and enjoyment in AR learning, and in general, an increase in their STEM skills and performance. The findings show that employing an AR approach in primary students learning reveal significant differences in students’ preference in AR learning, enjoyment in AR learning, performance in STEM learning, enjoyment in science learning, willingness to attend STEM classes, and STEM skills after the AR intervention. Thus, the newly developed AR learning module is an attempt to assist teachers nurture their students via this knowledge transfer program, increase their engagement, peer interactions and collaboration, and improve their confidence to become successful learners in the future.
