Abstract

DOI: 10.17014/ijog.v5i1.90The eruption of Kelud Volcano in 2007 was started with an increase in the seismic activity on September 2007. It was ended with a lava dome formation inside the crater lake on 3 November 2007. This phenomenon showed the change of eruption behavior compared to the last eruption on February 1990 that was an explosive one. Result from the GPS observation method during three periods, which are: April, August, and October 2008 showed that the vector displacement on each measured point was affected dominantly by structural geology forces as a crustal stabilisation after the last phase of November 2007 eruption. There was also a minor displacement as the result of magma migration around the points that were close to the lava dome. The magma migration occurred in a relatively shallow depth and was associated with an aseismic zone. The deformation that occurred as a result of magma migration toward the surface was calculated to determine the magma supply and magma injected. The result then was compared to illustrate a mechanism of deformation during April – October 2008. The comparison of magma supply and magma injected within these periods showed that the inflation still occurred, but it was not supported by a surface manifestation. This inflation could be false because of data discontinuity, or it is actually a part of deflation trend.

Abstract

DOI: 10.17014/ijog.v7i4.147Precursor of Lokon Volcano eruptions in 2011 is believed to begin since December 2007 which was marked by increasing number of volcanic earthquakes and gas emission. To support this information, deformation method is used primarily to determine deformation characteristics of Lokon volcanic activity in the period of 2009-2011. The period of analysis is adapted to the presence of GPS data. Displacement rate of Lokon GPS observation points in the period of 2009 - 2011 ranged from 1.1 to 7 cm a year. Strain patterns that occur in the areas are compression surrounding Tompaluan crater and extension in the eastern slope. Location of the pressure source for August 2009 - March 2011 measurement was at a depth of 1800 m beneath Tompaluan crater. Deformation in the Lokon Volcano is characteristized by the compression zone in the summit and crater area caused by magma activity raised into the surface from a shallow magma source which is accompanied by a high release of volcanic gases. Accumulated pressure release and deformation rate as measured in the Lokon Volcano remain low.

Abstract

Fluid inclusions study have been conducted in the Lumban Julu area, Tobasa Residence, North Sumatra Province, in the frame work research of programs on metallogeny in the Bukit Barisan zone, North Sumatra segment. Samples analyzed are derived from quartz veins associated with gold mineralization. Metal content of the veins are 12 -131 ppm Cu, 13 - 495 ppm Pb, 8-183 ppm Zn, 2-407 ppm Ag and 0,01-1,85 ppm Au. These quartz veins are milky-white to transparent, prismatic shape and crustiform banding, colloform in texture, containing quartz and several other minerals such as chlorite, clay, epidote and opaque. Fluid inclusions within the quartz host form negative crystals, made up of two components (bi-phase) consisted of liquid and vapor. The liquid phases consist of primary and secondary inclusions and occur within quartz crystal and fractured zone. Liquid Fluid inclusion measurement shows that homogenization temperature can be divided into high-T (326 to >400°C) and low-T (135-262)°C. This hydrothermal fluid is rich in water with low salinity (- 0.28 – (- 1.36) % NaCl equivalent). The data confirm that boiling processes took place when mineral was deposited. Therefore, it is concluded that mineralization processes in the area comprise two systems of mineral depositions, firstly associated with high-T with mesothermal system at ± 1600 m depth and the second one associated with ephythermal system at ± 550 m depth.Key word: fluid inclusion, quartz, epithermal, Tobasa

Abstract

The study area is located in Kutawaringin village, about 3.5 kilometers from Soreang city, the capital of Soreang district, Bandung regency. The purpose of this research is to show fault control on the research area that influence the distribution pattern of quartz veins and epithermal gold mineralization. Methodology in this research is initiated by literatur study. All data are compiled as overlaying maps to determine next step activities. Structural observations include macroscopic and mesoscopic. Results of the analyses are in form of structural geological map, main principal stresses distributions map and fault evolution map that could be valuable to develop a dilational zone map of the area. Structural geology investigation suggests that the main controls of the emplacement of andesit and dacite intrusive rocks as hydrothermal and metal minerals source are east-west trending dextral fault. Northwest-southeast trending normal fault are structural corridors along dilational zone. Quartz veins is distributed along dilational zone. The general trend of quartz veins is N 143°E/78°, relatively parallel to the dilational zone. Keywords : structures, dilational zone, alteration zone, mineralization, epithermal, Kutawaringin
