Abstract

This article discusses cross-cultural mission communication from a socio-theological perspective. In the context of globalisation and cultural diversity, the church is required to convey the message of the Gospel in a relevant manner without compromising theological truth. This study uses a qualitative method based on literature review to explore contextual theology approaches in mission communication. The findings indicate that effective mission communication must consider the social and cultural context of the recipients. Contextual theology, as explained by Stephen Bevans through his six models of approach, serves as an important framework for the church in developing contextual and transformative communication strategies. Additionally, the case study in Simalungun demonstrates that the success of mission efforts depends on the ability to understand local social structures, language, and symbols. Reinterpretation of meaning is also a natural part of cross-cultural communication that requires a theological response.Contextual theological education that is responsive to social change has proven to support impactful mission communication. In the digital age, the church must develop a theology of communication that can address technological challenges while maintaining spiritual depth. In conclusion, cross-cultural mission communication requires a dialogical, reflective, and contextual approach. The integration of theological understanding and social sensitivity is the key to mission success in an ever-changing world.
