Abstract

This study aims to discover and explain how politeness maxims are employed in the Madurese theme role-playing. The study employs qualitative design of the research. It also employs observation technique and depth interview to obtain the data. In analyzing the data, it applies interactive model: data reduction, display, and/claim. This study finds ten politeness maxims in the using of Madurese theme role- playing.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) kandungan, (2) teknik penyampaian, (3) persamaan dan perbedaan aspek pendidikan karakter yang terdapat dalam classic fairy tales versi bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagai berikut. (1) Kandungan aspek pendidikan karakter dalam classic fairy tales versi bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia dapat dikelompokkan ke dalam lima hubungan karakter. (2) Teknik penyampaian aspek pendidikan karakter dalam lima puluh classic fairy tales versi bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia terdiri dari dua bentuk, yaitu teknik langsung dan tidak langsung. (3) Persamaan dan perbedaan yang ditemukan pada classic fairy tales versi bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia dapat digolongkan ke dalam tiga tipe, yaitu tidak memiliki perbedaan, memiliki persamaan substansi tetapi berbeda varian karakter, dan memiliki perbedaan substansi pendidikan karakter namun ada beberapa persamaan. Kata Kunci: pendidikan karakter, classic fairy tales, teknik penyampaian CHARACTER EDUCATION IN CLASSIC FAIRY TALES Abstract: This study aimed to describe (1) the contents, (2) the techniques of delivery, and (3) the similarities and differences between character education aspects in classic fairy tales in the English and the Indonesian versions. This was a descriptive study in the form of a textual study. This results of the study are as follow. (1) The contents of character education aspects in fifty classic fairy tales written by four writers in the English and the Indonesian versions can be grouped into five character value relations. (2) The techniques of delivery of character education aspects in fifty classic fairy tales consist of two forms: the telling technique and the showing technique. (3) The similarities and differences between character education aspects in classic fairy tales in English and Indonesian can be grouped into three types: no differences, with differences in character variants but similar in substance, and with both differences and similarities in the substance of character education. Abstract

This study aims to examine and explain language features in essays about Madurese arts. The writers uses qualitative descriptive methods to elaborate data. The source of the data in this study is essays by second semester students of English Department at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura which discuss about Madurese art. Meanwhile, the data  of this study are characters, sentences, and paragraphs in essays that contain various language features. This study uses Gerot and Wignell (1995) theory of language features in descriptive essays. The result of this study shows that there are five language features that students use in their essays: the use of certain objects, the use of simple present tense, the use of noun and adjective phrases, the use of  auxiliary, and the use of linking verb.
