Abstract

English is a very vital language to learn. In the Indonesian school curriculum, a student's ability to communicate in English is one of the skills that must be developed. This is because later students can encounter learning that uses this language and it becomes additional value for the students' abilities. The aim of this activity is to train and introduce the basics of English for elementary and middle school levels as an effort to improve the quality of English at the age of children. The stages or steps of the activity are as follows: 1) discussion with the activity implementer regarding the concept of the home learning program. In this discussion, the activity organizer determines the theme, schedule and location of the program; 2) consult and seek approval with the Village Head regarding the program to be held; 3) make activity brochures to distribute. Here the official schedule and location are determined; 4) ask permission from each head of the region where the study house is being held. The location of the program was implemented in Pandan Wangi Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency with a sample of five hamlets, namely Batu Bawi Bat, Batu Bawi Timuk, Penyambak, Pengansing, and Belatung hamlets; 5) location survey for implementing home learning activities in each hamlet; 6) socialize the home learning program to every elementary and middle school level in the five hamlets while distributing brochures; 6) start implementing the home learning program which is held every afternoon from Monday to Friday in five different hamlets; and 7) evaluation and discussion of each program result that has been implemented. Service activities that have been carried out include: 1) introductions using English; 2) learn the use of this, that, these, and those; 3) learn the pronunciation of the alphabet; 4) introduction using English; 5) study noun material; 6) study subject and pronoun material; 7) learn the pronunciation of numbers 1-10 in English; and 8) evaluation. Based on the description of the activities that have been carried out, it can be concluded that: 1) the focus of the service activity program is to improve the quality of human resources through language learning, both among village children and teenagers. Making the joint learning program a successful program to increase the interaction courage of village children as well as increasing children's interest and awareness in learning English as an international language has shown the success of the initial planning for implementing service activities; and 2) the obstacles experienced by implementers during the activity were the difficulty of increasing children's awareness of the importance of mastering international languages ​​in this millennial era.

Abstract

There were three main problems faced by students at SMKN 2 Mataram after the pandemic period. First is limited interaction between teacher and students during the pandemic period meant that students did not receive clear instructions for reading, practicing, or presenting the required material. This research was aimed to find out the effect of Content-Based Instruction towards students’ reading comprehension on post pandemic period at SMKN 2 Mataram. This research was experimental research with non-equivalent control group design. The sample of this research were students of XI ULW 1 as experimental class, and students of XI ULW 2 as control class. Experimental class was treated by using Content-Based Instruction, and control class was treated by using Task Based Learning as conventional way of teaching. The instrument used a lesson plan and reading test that consist of 25 items in the form of multiple choices. The research data was collected from the pre-test and post-test results of both groups and analyzed using independent sample t-test. According to the results, it showed that the score of sig. (2-tailed) = 0.04 which is smaller than the significance level 0.05 which means there was significant difference between the scores of experimental and control groups. It can be concluded that Content-Based Instruction had an effect on students’ reading comprehension on post pandemic period at SMKN 2 Mataram. The effect of CBI that were able to form active and independent students made CBI worth considering for use in the teaching and learning process.
Meningkatkan Pelafalan Bahasa Inggris melalui Teknik Shadowing pada Siswa Kelas VII SMPN Model Terpadu Madani Damayanti, Sabrina

Abstract

Kemampuan pelafalan merupakan komponen penting dalam keterampilan berbicara, namun siswa kelas VII SMPN Model Terpadu Madani masih mengalami kesulitan dalam pengucapan bunyi segmental, penekanan kata, dan intonasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan pelafalan siswa dengan menerapkan teknik shadowing. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) berdasarkan model Kemmis dan McTaggart, yang diimplementasikan melalui tiga siklus dengan melibatkan 32 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan tes pelafalan, observasi, serta catatan lapangan, yang kemudian dianalisis melalui pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Temuan penelitian mengindikasikan adanya kenaikan yang stabil dari tahap pra-siklus hingga siklus III. Rata-rata skor meningkat dari 54,2 pada pra-siklus menjadi 64,3 di siklus I, 72,7 di siklus II, dan akhirnya mencapai 83,1 di siklus III. Peningkatan tampak pada ketepatan vokal dan konsonan, akurasi penekanan kata dan intonasi, kelancaran artikulasi, serta kepercayaan diri siswa saat berbicara. Teknik shadowing terbukti membantu siswa mengenali pola bunyi bahasa Inggris secara lebih akurat melalui paparan audio berulang dan latihan menirukan secara langsung. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa shadowing merupakan teknik yang efektif dan aplikatif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pelafalan siswa SMP, serta dapat diintegrasikan sebagai strategi pembelajaran alternatif dalam pengajaran berbicara.
