Abstract

Sampah plastik menimbulkan permasalahan serius karena sulitnya terdegradasi oleh alam dan menimbulkan pencemaran pada lingkungan. Kehadiran Bank Sampah Seni Baru yang terletak di Kecamatan Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan, merupakan salah satu upaya mengurangi pembuangan sampah plastik. Hingga kini, Bank Sampah Seni Baru belum memiliki reaktor pengolahan sampah plastik khususnya reaktor pirolisis. Bank Sampah Seni Baru dalam operasional pengelolaannya melakukan pendekatan daur ulang sampah plastik kepada masyarakat sekitarnya melalui pemanfaatan sampah plastik menjadi bentuk kerajinan tangan dan lainnya. Tentu saja metode daur ulang ini pada suatu waktu akan menghadapi permasalahan yang sama karena hanya mengubah bentuk dari sampah plastik tersebut untuk sementara waktu. Atas dasar permasalahan ini, kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan teknologi pirolisis sebagai bentuk daur ulang yang dapat mengubah sampah plastik menjadi fraksi cair yang memiliki sifat sebagai bahan bakar. Luaran dari kegiatan ini adalah menghasilkan reaktor pirolisis dan melakukan pelatihan teknis mengenai penggunaan reaktor pirolisis tersebut

Abstract

Plastic waste can cause severe problems for the environment and humans. This is because plastic is rugged and degrades naturally. Inadequate plastic waste management in the community around SMA Kanisius is a challenge in overcoming plastic waste. This activity aims to increase student's awareness and knowledge of the importance of plastic waste processing through pyrolysis in overcoming the problem of plastic waste. SMA Kanisius can be a model school for plastic waste processing, from sorting plastic waste to processing plastic waste into liquid fractions through pyrolysis. The output of this activity is an increase in knowledge of students regarding the basic concept of pyrolysis technology as an alternative method of processing plastic waste. This community service activity shows the implementation of scientific and engineering knowledge in plastic waste processing in pyrolysis technology. This community service activity is expected to help open students' insights into plastic waste recycling so that awareness of processing plastic waste can be started in schools. Indirectly, this activity can have an impact on environmental maintenance.

Abstract

Waste cooking oil is household waste that can pollute the environment and damage aquatic ecosystems if not properly treated. In Indonesia, its production reaches 6.46–9.72 million kiloliters per year. To address this issue, effective adsorbent materials such as cellulose aerogels are needed. This study utilizes teak sawdust waste as a cellulose source for aerogel production. The delignification process using NaOH yields cellulose pulp, which is then converted into cellulose aerogel. This cellulose aerogel was tested for its adsorptivity towards waste cooking oil, showing the highest absorption capacity at 100°C delignification variation, amounting to 0.27 grams of waste cooking oil per gram of cellulose aerogel with 76.15% of the waste cooking oil adsorbed. TGA analysis confirmed that the aerogel has higher thermal stability compared to the original teak sawdust waste, and SEM analysis revealed the porous structure of the aerogel supporting its adsorptive capacity. The results show that cellulose aerogel from teak sawdust waste is effective in absorbing waste cooking oil and has great potential as an environmentally friendly solution for water pollution, supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Number 6 on clean water and sanitation.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase the reading interest of the Murni Orphanage children through the Literacy Diary method. The method of implementing this service used mentoring by implementing reading activities for 15 minutes every day and writing down the results of the reading in a Literacy Diary. Questionnaires were used to evaluate this activity, and the results were analyzed descriptively. The results of this community service activity could increase children's interest in reading, with a satisfaction level of 77.8% of the usefulness indicator for activity participants. The indicators of the success of this service also included the equipment used during the activity, the atmosphere and situation during the implementation of the activity, activity time, the media, reading materials/materials, guidance from a mentor, reading literacy practices, mentor's adaptability, and mastery of the material from the mentor respectively.
