Abstract

Teachers face several drawbacks and potential issues while participating in an online class. This study explored the challenges encountered by teachers in implementing online distance learning in the Basic Education Department, specifically in the Junior and Senior High School, of Misamis University, Ozamiz City. The study utilized a qualitative approach using phenomenological design. The study included twenty (20) participants from the teachers handling online classes in the Junior and Senior High Schools, selected through purposive sampling. In-depth face-to-face interviews were used in gathering information from the teachers. The researcher employed the seven steps of Colaizzi’s method of data analysis. Results revealed the following themes: (1) the need to motivate the students in learning the lessons; (2) the preparation of learning resources; (3) poor internet connection; and (4) constant communication with students and parents. Teachers may integrate activities that would keep the students engaged throughout the lesson. Back-up plans may be designed to address the challenge of internet connectivity which interfere the teaching-learning process.

Abstract

Research has always been considered one of the most challenging aspects of being a student. This study explored the challenges encountered by college students in conducting research in one of the higher education institutions in Ozamiz City during S.Y. 2023-2024. This study utilized a qualitative approach and adopted a case study research design. Purposive sampling was applied to 17 participants. Data elicitation was achieved through face-to-face, in-depth interviews that used a researcher made interview guide. Yin's approach suggests that three themes emerge from the data. These are the initiation, design, and execution phases, multifaceted challenges of students, navigation of methodological, ethical, and analytical challenges, and strategies for overcoming challenges to access literature, collect data, analyze, interpret, and communicate. The use of university resources and academic databases provides necessary information and support for accessing relevant literature and data. Clear communication and proactive problem-solving ensure that students can address issues promptly and make informed decisions. Together, these strategies significantly aid students in overcoming research obstacles.

Abstract

The implementation of the university's philosophy, vision, mission, goals, objectives, and core values (PVMGOC) and student internalization highlight the crucial role these elements play in shaping student experiences and outcomes. This study examines the level of implementation and internalization of the university's philosophy, vision, mission, goals, objectives, and core values (PVMGOC) within the Basic Education Department in one of the institutions in Ozamis City. This study utilized descriptive- correlational design and was conducted on 416 students from the Basic Education department who were selected through stratified random sampling. A researcher-made questionnaire on the implementation and internalization of the PVMGOC was used to gather the data. Mean, Standard Deviation, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient were the statistical tools used in the study to analyze the collected data. The results reveal that the university's level of implementation of the PVMGOC was very high, with students showing an equally high level of internalization of these values. Furthermore, the analysis found a highly significant relationship between the degree of implementation and the level of internalization among students. The findings suggest that the university’s effective implementation of its PVMGOC has led to a strong integration of these core elements into both institutional practices and student behavior, demonstrating how essential these principles are in shaping the academic and personal development of students.
