Abstract

This research aims to find out how much production costs and income farmers earn from pig farming. The research was carried out in Passo Village, Baguala District, Ambon City, using a survey method with case study method techniques and determining respondents using purposive sampling. The number of respondents was 44 breeders. Data collection was carried out through direct interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis was carried out descriptively by calculating production costs, income and Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C). The research results show that the average production cost (explicit and implicit) is IDR 18,444,447.45/year. Average fixed costs Rp. 13,851,996.81/year (74.98%). Average variable costs Rp. 4,617,046.00 (25.02%). The average income of farmers is IDR 26,169,565.00/year. If the calculation is explicit, the income is IDR 21,033,103.00 and explicitly + implicitly IDR 7,725,117.55. The R/C Ratio (Explicit) value is 5.10 and the R/C Ratio (Explicit + Implicit) is 1.42. With an R/C Ratio value of ˃1, the pig farming business in Passo Village, Baguala District, is considered economically profitable and worth pursuing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the planning patterns of livestock breeders in beef cattle farming businesses and to determine the facilitating and inhibiting factors that influence the planning patterns of livestock breeders in beef cattle farming businesses in Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. Primary data collection techniques used interview techniques and observations of respondents guided by questionnaires while secondary data were obtained from agency reports related to research results and other references related to this study. Then, the sampling technique used a purposive sampling method. Data analysis used in this study was quantitative descriptive analysis and T-test. The results of this study indicate that respondents' answers regarding livestock breeder planning patterns in Kairatu District were more dominant in answering no in the management of seed selection, fattening systems, provision of more cages and disease prevention and control while respondents who answered yes were more in the variable of feeding. Based on the results of the partial test (T), it shows that the variables that have a significant influence on livestock farmer planning patterns are the infrastructure and resource variables (X1) and limited capital (X2.1), while the variables that do not have a significant influence on livestock farmer planning patterns are the variables of limited seed sources (X2.2) and limited access to information/technology (X2.3).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social, economic, and technical characteristics of cattle farmers in Salahutu District, Central Maluku Regency. The research was conducted in May–June 2025, involving 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling from three villages: Suli, Tulehu, and Liang. Data were collected through observation, structured interviews using questionnaires, and documentation, and then analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution and percentages. The results showed that most farmers were in productive age with considerable farming experience, although their formal education level was relatively low. Cattle farming was still small-scale, with an average ownership of 8.33 heads per farmer, limited land use, and feed sources mainly from local forages and grazing lands. The main challenges faced by farmers included limited capital, seasonal feed availability, and restricted market access. Nevertheless, the high demand for beef offers significant opportunities for developing cattle farming in the region. This study is expected to serve as a reference for policymaking in improving cattle productivity and farmers’ welfare.

Abstract

Community-Based Service Activities (PBM) – the Lecturer Community Service Program (PDM) aims to increase the income of pig farmers in the Gunung Nona area, Ambon City, through the formation of farmer groups and the development of product marketing. The activities were carried out by the PDM-PBM Team of Pattimura University using methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and participatory mentoring over two days. Participants consisted of small-scale farmers who have been running their businesses individually. The training materials included group management, partnership networks, product promotion, and technical management of animal care. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in farmers' knowledge and skills, from 31.27% and 44.23% to 82.38% and 91.67%, respectively. Partner farmers showed high responsiveness through active participation and numerous questions during the activities. A tangible impact of this activity is the formation of the Gunung Nona pig farmers group as an institutionally recognized organization, which is beginning to design collective marketing strategies. The establishment of the group and the strengthening of marketing capacity are expected to increase business efficiency, strengthen the bargaining position of the farmers, and open opportunities for sustainable income growth.
