Abstract

The study aims to analyze the critical thinking skills of students using the case-based method in teaching-learning activities. The subject that was held was laboratory engineering and management. This study is motivated by the various problems in the laboratory that were conducted with the teaching-learning material in this course and also related to the student's critical thinking ability to solve the problems in the chemistry laboratory at Manado State University. The subjects were chemistry education study program 5th-semester that consisted of 6 students. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The procedures were: (1) The teacher gave the explanation in accordance learning outcomes of this course; (2) The teacher asked students to observe the chemistry laboratory (case study); (3) The students made paper and presented the paper in class followed by a discussion with question-answer; last (4) The teacher gave critical thinking skill test. Based on the test result, the critical thinking skills students classified as high and valued at about 84.5%. The values for each indicator of critical thinking skills are as follows: (1) interpretation of 96.67%; (2) analysis of 66.67%; (3) eval_uation of 93.33%; and (4) inference of 81.33%.Various methods must be taken to improve students' critical thinking skills such as providing varied cases for students and asking students to solve these cases

Abstract

The Task-Based Learning (TBL) instructional model refers to an approach that emphasizes the presentation of structured tasks progressively, aiming to train students' problem-solving skills from simple to more complex problems. This study applied a quantitative approach using descriptive methods and an ex post facto research design. The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the TBL learning model in enhancing students' understanding of concepts and statistical analysis skills. Participants in this study were students taking Statistics in the third semester of the Biology Education program at the State Islamic University of Mataram during the 2022/2023 academic year. The research instruments included a statistical data concept test and statistical analysis practice. Data analysis was conducted descriptively by comparing the mean scores of students' conceptual tests and analysis practices over 11 meetings. The research findings indicate that students' understanding of statistical concepts fluctuates in line with the complexity of the assigned tasks. Additionally, students' statistical analysis skills vary with the difficulty level of the tasks, but a positive trend in students' performance improvement is observed over time.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the differences between tourist and non-tourist beach ecosystems based on the community structure of Ocypode sp. Community analysis was carried out at two locations: Loang Baloq Beach (tourism) and Setangi Beach (non-tourism). The line-transect method was chosen for sample collection. At each location, three stations were created, and at each station, there were five quadrants. The water physico-chemical data collection consists of brightness, pH, temperature, TDS, and EC (conductivity). Apart from that, data was collected on human activity around the beach using certain criteria: 1) distance from the beach to the city center; 2) the existence of hotels or buildings around the beach; 3) the presence of physical waste; 4) visitor frequency; and 5) the existence of public facilities. Samples of Ocypode sp. were identified and then analyzed using density formulas, relative density, and diversity index. We found five species of ghost crab (Ocypode sp.) at Loang Baloq and Setangi Beach: Ocypode kuhlii, Ocypode jousseamei, Ocypode pallidula, Ocypode ryderi, and Ocypode japonica. The highest density and diversity of Ocypode sp. are found at Setangi Beach (non-tourist). The physico-chemistry of Setangi Beach waters shows better quality than Loang Baloq Beach. Likewise, the characteristics of human activity in the coastal area were observed. It can be concluded that physico-chemical factors and human activities influence the density and diversity of Ocypode sp. In addition, based on the community structure of Ocypode sp., it is stated that Setangi Beach (non-tourist) has better ecosystem quality than Loang Baloq Beach (tourism).

Abstract

Wetu Telu is a religious tradition practised by the Sasak people of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), which combines elements of Islamic teachings with local traditional practices. The term ‘Wetu Telu’ literally means ‘three times,’ referring to the three times of worship that are considered important in their religious practices. This article aims to explore Wetu Telu practices in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) as a form of harmony and tolerance in a multicultural society. This research is qualitative in nature, using the literature study method and data analysis based on the Miles and Huberman model. Data was collected through analysis of documents, books, articles, and other related sources that discuss Wetu Telu and intercultural interaction in NTB. The uniqueness of this research lies in the emphasis on the synergy between the Wetu Telu tradition and the values of tolerance in a diverse society. The results show that Wetu Telu practices not only function as religious rituals but also as a means to strengthen interfaith and cultural relations. Wetu Telu teaches respect for differences and the importance of harmony, which is the foundation in maintaining social stability in NTB. In conclusion, Wetu Telu practices in NTB reflect values of harmony and tolerance that can serve as a model for other regions in facing multicultural challenges. This research provides new insights into how local traditions can play a role in building an inclusive and peaceful society.
