Abstract

The role of technology in optimizing the collection and distribution of zakat and waqf has become an increasingly relevant research subject in managing Islamic charitable funds. Information and communication technology is crucial in increasing efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the zakat and waqf management process. As a qualitative research, this article investigates an in-depth understanding of various technological innovation phenomena applied to this problem, including using digital platforms, blockchain, and artificial intelligence to overcome traditional challenges in distributing charitable funds. Using a deductive approach, this research reviews the positive impact of technology adoption on increasing community participation, updating the fund collection system, and expanding the reach and operational efficiency of zakat and waqf institutions. Through this analysis, this journal aims to provide in-depth and relevant insights for practitioners, academics, and policymakers in utilizing the potential of technology to strengthen zakat and waqf management in the digital era.

Abstract

This community empowerment research aims to enhance the capabilities of residents in Balongjeruk Village, Kunjang District, Kediri Regency, through training in Islamic funeral rites and corpse care. The training addresses the lack of knowledge and skills among the community members in properly handling the deceased according to Islamic law, which often poses social and religious challenges in the village. The research employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, actively involving community members in observation, discussions, training, and evaluation processes. The results indicate a significant improvement in the community’s understanding and ability to perform all funeral rites, including washing, shrouding, funeral prayer, and burial. The training also reduced fear and negative stigma regarding corpse care and strengthened social and religious values within the community. Residents became more independent and capable of fulfilling the Islamic communal obligation (fardhu kifayah) in managing the deceased without relying entirely on religious leaders. This program is expected to serve as a model for community empowerment in similar regions. Recommendations for follow-up actions include continuous training, the formation of village funeral care groups, and collaboration with religious institutions to enhance capacity.

Abstract

This study examines how Kiai Kampung in Jombang negotiate competiting legal systems and explores the implications for legal pluralism theory. Using  a qualitative socio-legal approach, the research draws on observations, in-depth interviews with seven Kiai Kampung, village officials, and local residents, as well as document analysis. The finding shows that Kiai Kampung act as consultants, educators, advisors, and mediators through five locally grounded strategies rooted in Javanese Islamic-values. The study identifies three variants of Kiai Kampung: textualist, culturalist, and moderate, each representing different approaches to reconciling faraid and customary inheritance practices. Unlike previous studies emphasizing legal contestation, this research introduces the concept of normative brokerage, referring to the ability of local actors to select, validate, and operationalize forms of ‘urf to transform normative conflict into complementarity. The study also extends structural-functionalist theory by demonstrating that social equilibrium in plural legal system depends on local actors capable of bridging competing normative frameworks.
