Abstract

Kesamen, as a local wisdom passed down through generations, is preserved and maintained by the Sembiran community as a core part of their identity. From a social theology perspective, Kesamen represents efforts to uphold ancestral values that emphasize equality and unite the community in a socio-religious framework, while also preventing conflicts of interest. This study aims to examine the Kesamen system in the Sembiran community through the lens of social theology, particularly as a form of cultural identity preservation. The research uses a qualitative approach with data collection methods including observation, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. The findings show that Kesamen values align with the concept of social theology, reflected in daily practices such as Tri Hita Karana, Karma Phala, Tat Twam Asi, and Menyama Braya. Sembiran village is known for its rich traditions and culture, with moral values integrated into various aspects of social life, from individual relationships to community interactions. The preservation of Kesamen holds significant meaning, especially in maintaining religious values, fostering togetherness, ensuring social and cultural sustainability, and stabilizing society. In conclusion, Kesamen plays an essential role in strengthening social cohesion, preserving the cultural identity of the Sembiran community, and resisting external cultural domination. These values also boost the community's confidence in safeguarding their identity and solidarity.

Abstract

The reinforcement of character and religiosity values is a crucial element in education, particularly in addressing the challenges of globalization that threaten students' spiritual and cultural identity. The Peras Pejati project at SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja represents a contextual strategy grounded in local culture to instill these values. This study aims to describe the process of character and religiosity internalization, explain the educational functions of the project, and identify the contextual learning that emerged. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Primary data were collected through interviews with the project facilitator teachers, students, and the vice principal of curriculum, while secondary data were obtained from relevant books and documents. Informants were selected using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the project facilitates integrative learning through students' active engagement in symbolic, spiritual, and collaborative processes. Character values such as religiosity, cooperation, independence, discipline, and creativity were developed throughout the activities. The educational functions of the project encompass intellectual, social, communicative, spiritual, and practical dimensions. The project also strengthens teacher role-modeling in character education. The conclusion of this study affirms that the Peras Pejati project serves not only as a medium for cultural preservation, but also as a model of character education based on local culture that can be replicated in other schools.

Abstract

The declining internalization of Hindu spiritual values, such as sradha (faith) and bhakti (devotion), among Hindu students has raised concerns in the field of education, particularly in Hindu Religious Education. This study aims to explore the implementation of differentiated instruction as a strategy to strengthen sradha and bhakti values at SMAN 1 Abiansemal. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and a case study method, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that differentiated instruction through content, process, and product differentiation effectively accommodates students’ diverse readiness levels, interests, and learning styles. This strategy fosters active engagement in spiritual practices such as daily prayer, participation in religious activities, mutual cooperation, and acts of compassion. The approach also strengthens students’ religious behavior, ethical conduct, and social awareness, while enhancing their moral resilience against the negative influences of modernity. In conclusion, differentiated instruction proves to be a transformative pedagogical approach that not only conveys religious teachings cognitively but also instills them in concrete behavior, making it a relevant strategy for character building based on Hindu values in the contemporary era.
