Abstract

Abstract

Toxicity testing of a new product or drug that will circulate in the market is commonly done to determine its efficacy and safety. This study aims to assess the potential toxicity of the dermal acute natural veterinary medicine of Minyak Rajas on female Wistar rats. The test method used refers to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development protocol test number 402 of 2017. The test results obtained primary irritation index of zero, and the median acute dermal lethal dose >2000 mg/kg. It can be concluded that Minyak Rajas does not cause acute dermal toxicity topically and is safe for usage.

Abstract

Rats are commonly used as animal model in pathological and reproduction research, butunfortunately they are often infected with cysticercosis. The objective of this research was to determinethe pathological changes the of the rats (Rattus novergicus) tissues affected with cysticercus. Thisresearch using 24 of female rats. They were adapted to a new environment for a week and the feeding andwater were provided ad libitum. At the end of adaptation period rats were necropsied and the visceralorgans were examined for pathological changes especially the present of cysticercosis. The liver and kidneyof each rat were soaked in 10% phosphate buffered formalin. Following dehydration process, tissue wereembedded in paraplast, cut at 5 micron and stained with Harris hematoxylin eosin (HE). The resultshowed that 8 of 24 rats were affected by cysticercosis on the liver. The histopathological changes werenecrotic lesions and eosinophylic cells infiltration around the cysticercosis lesion. The results showed that8 of 23 rats were affected by cysticercosis. The presence of necrosis and cells inflammation could interferethe results of the study when such a rats are used. It is therefore necessary to screen rats for cysticercosis.

Abstract

Bidara leaves (Ziziphus mauritiana lamk) are an alternative herbal in wound healing because they contain alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, saponins and terpenoids. This study aims to determine how the effect of giving 100% bidara leaf extract on collagen density on the healing of gingival incision wounds in male wistar rats. This study used 24 male wistar rats. The sample consisted of three groups, namely the treatment group (P1), which was given 100% bidara leaf extract, the positive control group (K+) was given 10% povidone iodine, the negative control group (K-) was given 0.9% Nacl by smearing with cotton buds once a day. Mice were incised 15 mm in the gingival area to touch the alveolar bone vertically and applied with a cotton swab once a day. On the 8th day, all samples were biopsied on the gingiva of rats and made histological preparations to observe the amount of collagen density. Wound healing was observed with collagen growth. Observational data analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that 100% bidara leaf extract had an effect on the healing process of the wistar rat gingival incision wound and followed by the Mann Whitney test showed that 100% bidara leaf extract was not significantly different from 10% povidone iodine but very significantly different from 0.9% NaCl solution. It can be concluded that giving 100% bidara leaf extract can accelerate the wound healing process seen from the density of collagen.

Abstract

The transportation of broiler chickens can cause stress to broiler chickens resulting in a decrease in body weight and high mortality. Stress causes disturbances, causing changes in the organs that make up the chicken body, one of which is the kidneys. This study aims to determine the effect of infusion of Dadap (Erythrina Subumbrans) leaves as an antioxidant in broiler chickens subjected to transport stress at 33°-35°C for 4 hours. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a 3x2x5 factorial pattern with three replications. The number of samples used were 30 broiler chickens which were divided into 5 treatment groups, namely P0: negative control; P1: positive control and given vitamin C 2 gram/L; P2: 1000 ppm of Dadap leaf infusion is given; P3: 2000 ppm of Dadap leaf infusion was given and P4: 3000 ppm of Dadap leaf infusion was given. In the eighth result, after being given transport stress treatment, the kidneys were taken and then histological preparations were made with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. Parameters observed were degeneration, necrosis and infiltration of inflammatory cells. Histological scoring data were then analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, if there was a significant difference followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that giving dadap leaf infusion to broiler chickens that were not given stress reduced necrosis (P<0,01) while stress-treated chickens reduced necrosis (P<0,01) and inflammatory cell infiltration (P<0,05). It was concluded that the administration of 10% dadap leaf infusion with a concentration of 2000 ppm and 3000 ppm could improve the histological picture of the kidneys of broiler chickens experiencing transport stress.
