Abstract

Meningkatnya ekonomi maritim menjadi salah satu goal yang ingin dicapai oleh bangsa Indonesia, peningkatan tersebut dapat tercermin dari potensi wisata bahari yang dimiliki. Keanekaragaman hayati laut yang tinggi, pesisir laut yang ideal dan strategis, serta iklim tropis yang hangat dengan keberadaan matahari yang bersinar sepanjang tahun menjadi branding mahal bagi para wisatawan (baik lokal maupun asing) untuk dapat mengunjungi wisata bahari di Indonesia. Namun pada kenyataannya, meski memiliki ribuan pulau dengan sumber daya alam bahari yang indah, bukan merupakan jaminan bagi sebuah negara untuk mendapat keuntungan banyak dari bisnis pariwisata maritim. Pariwisata maritime sendiri jika tata kelolanya dilaksanakan dengan baik maka akan memberi dampak yang luar biasa bagi pengembangan ekonomi suatu negara. Lebih lanjut, dalam tata kelola pariwisata maritim dibutuhkan adanya good governance yang terintegrasi, adanya regulasi dan tindakan penegakan hukum yang efektif serta sistem pengambilan keputusan yang tepat oleh para pemangku kepentingan.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine and analyze the effects of different artificial feed formulations on the growth performance, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and Survival Rate (SR) of Sangkuriang catfish (Clarias gariepinus). An experimental method was employed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments and three replications: Treatment A (36.37% protein), Treatment B (32.23% protein), Treatment C (27.78% protein), and Treatment D (commercial feed as the control). The experiment was conducted for 30 days at the Kupang State Agricultural Polytechnic using catfish fingerlings with an initial length of approximately 7 cm and an average weight of approximately 3.0 g, reared in 26-L containers. Statistical analysis (ANOVA, P < 0.05) revealed that different feed formulations had a highly significant effect on all observed parameters. Treatment A produced the highest absolute length growth (3.76 cm) and the most efficient feed utilization, indicated by the lowest FCR value (1.11), which was statistically comparable to the commercial feed (Treatment D). Meanwhile, Treatment D resulted in the highest absolute weight gain (7.07 g) and specific growth rate (SGR) of 4.04%. The highest survival rate was achieved in Treatment C (93.3%), whereas the lowest survival rate was observed in Treatment D (56.6%), primarily due to environmental management factors and cannibalistic behavior. This study recommends the use of local feed formulation A for catfish culture because of its superior feed efficiency (lowest FCR) and its ability to compete with commercial feed performance. In addition, periodic size grading is recommended in bucket-based culture systems to minimize cannibalism and improve survival rates.

Abstract

Feed plays an important role in the success of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) farming because it directly affects growth rate, fish health, and production efficiency. Therefore, nutritional content testing through proximate analysis is necessary to ensure the quality of the feed used. This study aimed to identify the nutrient content of formulated catfish feed and evaluate its compliance with the feed quality standards established in SNI 01-4087-2006. The research was conducted at the Nutrition and Feed Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, Marine Affairs, and Fisheries, at Nusa Cendana University. Proximate analysis was carried out on three feed formulations, namely P1, P2, and P3. The parameters analyzed included dry matter, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, ash content, carbohydrates, and nitrogen-free extract (NFE). Moisture content was determined using the oven-drying method, crude protein was analyzed using the Kjeldahl method, crude fat was measured using the Soxhlet extraction method, crude fiber was determined through acid and alkaline hydrolysis, and ash content was measured using the furnace method. The results showed that formulation P1 had the highest crude protein content at 36.371%, followed by P2 at 32.234% and P3 at 27.776%. The crude fat content of the three formulations was relatively similar, ranging from 13.367% to 13.620%, while crude fiber content ranged from 5.143% to 8.337%. The highest ash content was found in P1 at 17.699%, whereas the lowest was recorded in P3 at 14.968%. Based on the evaluation against SNI 01-4087-2006 standards, formulations P1 and P2 met the minimum crude protein requirement, while formulation P3 did not meet the specified standard. However, all tested feed formulations exhibited ash content exceeding the maximum allowable limit, indicating that improvements in raw material formulation are still required.
