Abstract

Pangandaran is located in the southern coast of the Java Island. Some of Pangandaran fishers operate lift net (bagan) to catch fish and shrimp. During hauling process, the net is lifted manually using a roller that potentially harm the fishers. The purpose of this study was to design a mechanical roller that applicable for lift net. The analysis of design requirement, such as calculation of torque, horse power, and reduction power with gear mechanism for operating the roller were applied in this research. The results showed that the net lifting operation required 4.8 HP or 3.6 KW of diesel engine to power a hydraulic pump. For the maximum load, when the net is fully loaded with fish, the operation required 67.91 HP or 50.64 KW. It means power from the diesel motor was not enough to support at maximum load. Therefore, a gear mechanism with a ratio of 1:14 was applied. However, this method reduces the angular speed of the gear which leads to reduction on net pulling speed. Keywords: Lift net, hydraulic, horse power, power, and lifnet roller

Abstract

The problem of oil pollution in the sea is starting to get serious attention from the public. This incident caused the mass death of various types of marine organisms. Many cases only become government records without any complete response. An example of a case is oil pollution in Seribu Island. It is known that pollution has occurred since 2003 and in the 2003-2004 period it was recorded that it had occurred 6 times. To prevent and control marine pollution due to oil spills, there are several prevention methods. We know that the case is difficult to do because the oil spill is very done, both in terms of time, continuous work, and in terms of the costs involved. In this study, the design and construction of oil extraction using absorbent media in the oil waste area in the water. The purpose of this research is to design and conduct a study of the efficiency of a belt type oil skimmer using durian skin waste which is moved using a solar panel. It absorbs oil from the air which can be retrieved and collected onto the vessel by providing a piping arrangement. The collected oil can be reused for various purposes.

Abstract

River debris is the main problem from the negative impact of poor waste management. The composition of river debris in Jakarta consists mostly of plastic waste. Plastic waste from river debris has an opportunity for energy recovery. This study aimed to see the potential for utilizing river debris in energy recovery in power plants. This research was conducted at three sampling shelter points in Pesing, Pluit, and Perintis. Waste generation and composition were quantified using the load count method on Indonesian state standards for seven consecutive days. River debris generation in Pesing, Pluitm, and Pernting averaged 7.2; 3; and 1.8 tons/day. More than 60% (w/w) of plastic bag waste was found in the Pesing and Pluit shelters, while 67.3% was found in the Perintis shelter. Based on the calorific value of each plastic waste, the energy potential from plastic waste recovery can reach 16,197,109 kWh/year. This is equivalent to an electricity supply of 0.05% of the total electricity demand in Jakarta.

Abstract

Indonesian marine debris of aquatic waste in Jakarta is managed by the UPK of the Water Agency, one of which is the Pluit Employment. Several composting methods can be used and adapted to the available circumstances and needs. The composting process is carried out by utilizing the supply of oxygen, nutrients, water, and temperature control. This study aims to analyze the selection of alternative composting systems that can be carried out for planning the composting unit at Pluit Employment. Selection analysis was carried out using the Utility Theory and Compromise program methods. Alternative 1: This alternative uses a composting system using an open bin. Alternative 2 uses a simple windrow system with garbage piled up without heavy equipment during operation. Alternative 3 uses a composting system with a static pile system with a machine turning it over. In the composting method chosen, alternative 2. The distance between compost for workers' movement space, it can reach 1 m as in the TPS 3R Technical instructions, that because it does not use machines, the land used for machine movement is reduced. Limited land can be utilized for the amount of windrow so that the amount of processed waste can be more significant.

Abstract

The Republic of Indonesia Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI) was formed based on the mandate of Article 59 Paragraph 3 of Law Number 32 of 2014 concerning Maritime Affairs. Bakamla RI has implemented an early warning system to ensure security and safety in Indonesian waters and jurisdiction. The Bakamla RI Early Warning System (EWS), known as a choke point for maritime security and safety, has already been built and spread throughout Indonesian waters. However, in reality, drug smuggling by sea is still common. Drug smuggling by sea is still dominant today. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) revealed that 80% of drug trafficking is carried out by sea. Narcotics transactions in the middle of the sea are very safe transactions, this is due to very weak supervision in the middle of the sea by officers.  The purpose of this study is to analyze the mechanism and effectiveness of an early-stage warning system in preventing drug smuggling by sea. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with interview data collection techniques. Research shows that the Early Warning System Series produces ship detection and assistance data that can be processed into ship anomaly information. The application of the Bakamla RI early warning system to prevent drug smuggling by sea has not been effective. The difficulty of realizing information between agencies and the weak synergy in exchanging information are the main obstacles to the efficiency of the early warning system. Therefore, it is recommended to increase the capability of the Bakamla RI Early Warning System by integrating the Command and Control Center (Puskodal) or Control Center (Pusdal) of related agencies, as well as equipping it with monitoring equipment that integrates the Early Warning System.

Abstract

Marine debris in Jakarta is a complex problem because the amount is too large every day. Addressing this critical gap, this study proposes a model for efficient waste transportation through the development of an Intermediate Transition Station (ITS) system. This system not only facilitates the effective movement of waste but also incorporates a recovery process to reduce the volume of debris before it reaches the landfill. The ITS serves as a pivotal node in the waste management network, ensuring the continuity of waste flow from accumulation points to processing facilities. With the ITS, the total marine debris managed amounts to 39.96 tons/day, of which 9.33 tons/day is recovered, leaving a significantly reduced residue of 25.63 tons/day or 1.134 m3/day for landfill disposal. Implementing the Haul Container System (HCS) within this framework, the study demonstrates that waste transportation from the ITS to Jakarta's Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Site can be streamlined to just 3 trips/day. By providing a structured and strategic approach to marine debris transportation, the ITS model aims to prevent the re-pollution of Jakarta's water bodies and significantly reduce the carbon footprint by 67.2% from current conditions, thereby offering a sustainable solution to this pressing urban environmental challenge.

Abstract

The Tanggul River in Surakarta City is a tributary that empties into the Bengawan Solo River. Domestic activities located on river borders can pollute with the waste generation. Therefore, managing waste sources such as storage and collection is crucial in waste management. This study aims to analyze waste management from river debris storage and collection around the study site. The technique used in this research is direct observation of the study area and performing a decision analysis for alternative processing. Decision support system has one model, namely Multi-Criteria Decision Making for environmental development. The activities for collecting and sorting river debris in the Tanggul River are not yet available. The existing river debros collection used a 7 cm diameter net that has been installed at the sluice gate of the Tanggul River. Considering aspects or criteria in implementing accommodation activities needs to be carried out before determining the best alternative. Therefore, several measures need to be considered in determining the container based on SNI 19-2454-2002 concerning Operational Procedures for Urban Waste Management and Minister of Public Works Regulation Number 3 of 2013. The collection activity in alternative 1 uses the Brute Boom system: Heavy Duty Containment Boom equipped with a galvanized weir mesh net attached under the boom. The collection activity in alternative 2 uses a floating cube. The floating cube is a cube-shaped Waste holder that can float in the river to effectively hold waste floating on the surface of the river body. It is imperative to prevent river pollution from activities by providing infrastructure for storing and collecting waste. However, it does not have a more significant impact, such as the Tanggul River to the Bengawan Solo River in Surakarta City.
